LIBERALITY ,AVARICE AND PARSIMONY (PART 2)
Prov 11:25 NLT“The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”
Isa 58:10-11 TLB "Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too; and you will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.”
You can never go wrong with being generous Religious devotion is incomplete without a culture of liberality. Fasting, prayer and quoting long verses of the scriptures with their hidden meanings is no substitute for a culture of liberality and generosity.
The universe is divinely programmed to assist those given to a culture of liberality; Jesus said Luke 6:38 TLB “ For if you give, you will get! Your gift will return to you in full and overflowing measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use to give-large or small-will be used to measure what is given back to you." Also 2 Cor 9:6-8 TLB says “But remember this-if you give little, you will get little. A farmer who plants just a few seeds will get only a small crop, but if he plants much, he will reap much. Everyone must make up his own mind as to how much he should give. Don't force anyone to give more than he really wants to, for cheerful givers are the ones God prizes. God is able to make it up to you by giving you everything you need and more so that there will not only be enough for your own needs but plenty left over to give joyfully to others.” Liberal persons care less if the beneficiaries deserve kindness or not. They delight in being problem- solvers and derive fulfillment when needs are met.
Acts of liberality are part of Christian worship , it should be seen as being done unto God then can we truly experience the joy that comes from our acts of benevolence 1 Chron 29:9NLT Says “The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord, and King David was filled with joy. “ Acts of liberality are to be done according one’s income (De.16:17) should be unceremonious, unannounced, not ostentatious (Mat.6:3) cheerfully (2Cor.9:7) regularly, weekly (1cor.16:2)freely with simplicity (Mat.10:8,Rom.12:8) liberality should be according to one’s ability (2Cor.8:12,Act 11:29,Lev;14:13) It is behind giving the ceremonial tenth part (tithe)of our income like Abraham’s household did (Gen.14:20, Gen28:22) not according to Moses because we are not under the law. Abraham was not under the law; he gave the tenth part as an act of love and honour uncoerced. The power for generosity comes from God , we should ask for this in our prayers.
Alms giving is another demonstration of liberality, Lev 25:35-37 NIV says “'If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you. Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear your God, so that your countryman may continue to live among you. You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit” Jesus said in Luke 11:41 NLT “So clean the inside by giving gifts to the poor, and you will be clean all over. “ (Mat 19:21) it is very effective way of removing negative emotions from the heart. Are you emotionally depressed ?try giving arms today to the less privileged.
