MARITAL HARMONY IN TURBULENT TIMES
"He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?" 1 Timothy 3:4-5 NLTBible
The Bible defines marriage as the union between a man and a woman and it is a gift from God designed for sexual pleasure ,mutual assistance , companionship and to create a healthy and safe environment where children will be raised into becoming servants of God. The family is a microcosm of the church and Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ gave rules concerning the family . " In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself."Ephesians 5:28 NLT and " And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." Ephesians 5:21-22, 33 NLTBible
Married persons are expected to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength to carry on with the duties of marriage . “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.' John 15:5 NLTBible . A fruitful marriage is that where members of the family are full of the fruits of the holy spirit namely temperance, meekness, goodness, love, joy, long suffering , peace, gentleness ,faith (Galatians5:22)
Many persons define marital along the line of having children, cars, houses ,money etc. This is the reason behind many unhappy homes. You can have all these and more in a marriage and yet be leaving in misery , confused and afraid of the unknown .
No two marriages are the same therefore a man ought to know how to run his family (1 Timothy 3:4-5 ) and treat his wife as equal constitutionally and spiritually but unique and different in administrative functions. Bible says we are heirs TOGETHER of the grace of life , (1Pet3:7) therefore, both deserve to be respected .
Spouses should ask the Lord to intensify their love for each other to the point of it being addictive . " Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8 NLTBible
