FAVOUR CAN BE DECEPTIVE
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “give me the persons, and take the goods for you yourself But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord , God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’—Genesis 14:21-23 NKJVBible
" Favour is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord , she shall be praised." Proverbs 31:30 NKJVBible
The word 'favour' in this text is the Hebrew word 'chên ' and it means , grace, charm favour, grace, elegance favour, acceptance , kindness .
In Genesis 14 Abraham was offered part of the spoils of war by the king of Sodom but he understand the implications behind receiving such a gift and gladly rejected the offer.
The concept that a person receives lots of gifts and is being celebrated in the public domain is an indication of God's approval and the working of the anointing of God's favour upon the person was proven by Abraham to be a wrong logic.
Sodom was known for sexual perversion and lawlessness ( Gen19:5) . They were against God's law of marriage between persons of the opposite sex and the king wanted the captives of war as sex slaves. The King's offer would have corrupted Abraham's conscience and opened the door of sexual immorality in Abraham's family .This would have destroyed God's plans to have Jesus save humanity .
To the spiritually unlearned a gift from an unrepentant president is to be viewed as great grace or favour. There is a twisting of the holy scriptures by unrepentant popular personalities in the church who seek to justify their erroneous ways by claiming the material rewards from such abominable behaviours are an indication of God's approval and his favour upon the rebellious. God hates sins and the wages of sin is eternal death . God wants the sinner to repent from their sins. He loves sinners.(John3:16)
