" That night God came to Balaam and asked him, “Who are these men visiting you?” Balaam said to God, “Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent me this message: ‘Look, a vast horde of people has arrived from Egypt, and they cover the face of the earth. Come and curse these people for me. Then perhaps I will be able to stand up to them and drive them from the land.’” But God told Balaam, “Do not go with them. You are not to curse these people, for they have been blessed!” Numbers 22:9-12 NLT
"Then Balak tried again. This time he sent a larger number of even more distinguished officials than those he had sent the first time. They went to Balaam and delivered this message to him: “This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Please don’t let anything stop you from coming to help me. I will pay you very well and do whatever you tell me. Just come and curse these people for me!” But stay here one more night, and I will see if the Lord has anything else to say to me.” That night God came to Balaam and told him, “Since these men have come for you, get up and go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.” So the next morning Balaam got up, saddled his donkey, and started off with the Moabite officials. But God was angry that Balaam was going, so he sent the angel of the Lord to stand in the road to block his way. As Balaam and two servants were riding along,"
Numbers 22:15-17, 19-22 NLT
Cursing Prophet Balaam was invited by the king of Moab to place a curse on the traveling Israelites with the hope of destroying them .
When he sought the Lord's counsel ,he was commanded not to heed the call of the king .
God does not say yes at one moment concerning a thing and no at another . He is not man that has to struggle between opinions.
The bible says " As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” 2 Corinthians 1:18 NLT. It was therefore against divine principles for Balaam to go back to God haven been instructed on what to do . Balaam was motivated by the three things the devil often uses to destroy ministers .
The three major motivations that results in failure in ministry are 1) Riches 2) Fame 2) Influence and power .Non of these is a mark of ministerial excellence but righteousness , pursuit of peace , joy in the holy Ghost and preaching the message of repentance and love . These were the reasons behind the high level delegation from the king to lure greedy prophet Balaam . The king said '..I promised to reward you richly, ..” Numbers 24:11 NLT.
God told Balaam not to go but he sought the lord the more and the lord told him to go with the king's men but the lord was angry with Balaam for trying to arm twist him because of riches, power, fame . Balaam was not interested in the message of repentance instructed by Jesus Christ to all disciples.
Whenever preachers measure success by how much money they have they become tools to economic saboteurs ( money launderers, ponzi schemes, drug dealers and smugglers ) like Balaam , the bible describes them in the new testament .
" They have wandered off the right road and followed the footsteps of Balaam son of Beor, who loved to earn money by doing wrong. " 2 Peter 2:15 NLT. They and their followers are in danger of missing heaven (2 Thess2:6-12)
Prayer : Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you , I receive him as lord and savior and receive the Holy Spirit and power to live in integrity .
