DISPENSERS OF THE FRAGRANCE OF HIS GOODNESS
Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
2Cor.2:14" Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place."
The word' savour' as used in this text of scripture is the Greek word 'osme' and it means fragrance , odour, and the word 'triumph ' is the word Greek word 'thriambeuo' which means : to make an acclamatory procession, to conquer or to give victory. What this implies is that the message of grace emits a fragrance that results in victorious living.
Words have odour that either makes us attractive or repulsive. Proverbs 24:26 says "Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer." the child of God who has patterned his or her speech after the word of grace has kissable lips. Cosmetics makes lips appear beautiful but does not determine how kissable a lip is: it the love that a person has for another that leads to passionate kissing .We are attracted to gracious words. The crisis in our relationships are as a result of the lack of good communication skills .
A person's eloquence in the use of a formal language does not determine the efficacy of their communication skill rather it is the ability to speak with grace; Col.4:6 says"Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man." the tongue filled with grace does not weary its hearers leaving them hopeless but makes them stronger and filled with hope, Isaiah 50:4says "The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. " God is the teacher of the word of grace only to those who seek Him early. The opposite of grace is condemnation. That's not the kind of odour God wants us to emit.
We should pray for good utterances, the scriptures says in Psalm 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord.." and psalm 141:3 "Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips." It is communication deficiencies hinders unmarried Christians from finding a spouse and not the so called 'marine spirits'. The scriptures says we have been delivered from the forces of darkness (Col.1:12-13,Luke10:19) and declared qualified for marriage and other provisions due the saints of God. The word of God is true and He wants us to commit ourselves to speaking what is right and true (Prov.8:6-8)
We should learn to speak and correct one another in love (Eph.4:15,Prov.25:11-12,15:4) We are admonished to avoid using unwholesome or corrupt words against each other , Ephesians 4:29 says "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers". The word corrupt is the Greek word 'sapros' which means :rotten, morally bad , worthless . Words have power whether used casually or seriously , You cannot call a spouse or child a fool and yet say it was a joke, such words leads to cracks in the walls of Christian homes. We should by all means avoid using derogatory words against each other(Prov.15:1). Derogatory words can destroy a couples' sexual desire for each other.Such couples pretend to love each other and derive sexual satisfaction by imagining their spouse to be someone else. This opens the door to sexual sins which are totally avoidable if married persons avoid using derogatory languages against themselves .Speaking graciously helps married couples attain sexual satisfaction and healing .
Being patient listeners averts misunderstanding(James1:19) Most times it pays to just listen.Speaking before listening often results in loss of respect ( Prov.18:13,Prov.29:20) It leads to hopelessness and frustration in any relationship.
God forbids us from lying to each other((Exodus 20:16,Ephesians 4:25), credibility once lost takes decades to rebuild. Lying exposes a family to dangers and gives Satan the advantage over us. The fastest way to quit lying is to minimize talking .You must not contribute to every discussion. God hates lies Prov.12:22 says " Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight. " Lying shuts the door to prosperity and opens the doors to disaster (Psalm34:11-14) and liars will not go unpunished (Prov.19:9) it is for this reason that God has given His holy Spirit to strengthen our communication skills (Acts 2:4,Rom8:26)
As you make Jesus Christ your lord and read this now, receive grace for control of your tongue and the healing of every broken heart in your family in Jesus name.
