THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

" Therefore thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale."

Isaiah 52: 3 "For thus saith the  Lord, Ye have sold yourselves for  nought; and ye shall be redeemed  without money.'

The word ' redeemed ' in this scripture is the Hebrew word pâdâh : it means to sever, that is, ransom ; generally to release, preserve:.

What was Abraham released from.? Abraham leaved 430 years before the law of Moses was instituted and as such there was no written code to break , however , there was the law of the human conscience . This law is as valid as the written code.

The bible says "For when the  Gentiles, which have not the law, do by  nature the things contained in the law,  these, having not the law, are a law  unto themselves: Which shew the  work of the law written in their hearts,  their conscience also bearing witness,  and their thoughts the mean while  accusing or else excusing one  another;)" Romans 2:14-15 . This law of the conscience is the major problem that religions of the world are faced with ,it is the reason for the endless religious rituals designed by religious institutions to make the voice of guilt and condemnation go away but it won't because religion lacks the power to cure sin.

Abraham practiced the traditional form of religion as practiced by many traditional worshippers before his encounter with God.

It was while he was yet a traditional worshipper that God spoke to him. It was the beginning of the journey of faith in the monotheistic God who created the universe. The Bible says faith comes by hearing God's word ( Romans 10:17)  and without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11;6) so the more Abraham listened the more he heard and his faith grew.

The scripture says this faith in God and believe in God was accounted as righteousness to Abraham. Genesis 15:6' And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.' The word' believe' is the Hebrew word âman ; it means morally to be true, assurance , certain. trust .Therefore, Abraham saw God as trustworthy enough enough to assure him of his eternal salvation and that was what made God declare him righteous .

As soon as he was declared righteous by God Abraham became free from the condemnation by conscience  . The bible says religious rituals cannot free the conscience " Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;"Hebrew 9;9 We can't redeem ourselves through religious rituals Psalm 49: 7 'None  of them can by  any means redeem his brother, nor give  to God a ransom for him:"

Abraham was declared redeemed ( not guilty) outside religious rituals likewise the believer in Jesus Christ who is the promised seed of Abraham is given the same assurance as Abraham with a free conscience "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God " Hebrews 9;14

Prayer :Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and ask to be given your Holy Spirit and power to excel
