DELIVERANCE THROUGH WORSHIP OF THE SON
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Mathew 4:10 "Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. "
Was Jesus worshipped ?
The word 'worship' in Mathew 4:10 is the Greek word proskuneō : it means to kneel or prostration to do homage (to one) or make obeisance, whether in order to express respect or to make supplication like a dog kissing his master's hands.
The Jewish custom was very strict on the worship of God. Worship was to be accorded to God only , therefore , when Jesus claimed divinity by saying he is the son of God it was seen as an abomination and a violation of Jewish customs.
Despite this contradictions , Jesus never rejected worship from his followers,. The Bible says when he was tempted of Satan he said ", Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. "" This means Jesus acknowledged that only God deserved worship . If that was the case he was expected to reject all attempts to worship him but he never did.
In John 5:23 "That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. " He insisted that men give him worship or honour as they do the father .
He was simply saying men should give him the same obeisance given to the Father .He said there was no difference between him and the Father . He said in John 10:30 "I and my Father are one. " and he said to his disciples who were struggling to comprehend how God can be in heaven and be on earth in the body of Christ , to that the Bible says in John 14: 9 "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Colossians1: 15 " Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: " Just as a mirror reflects the image of the person in front of it , Jesus Christ is the express image of the father therefore, it was not out of place for him to receive worship .
There where many instances where Jesus Christ was worshipped , Matthew 8:2 'And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean." also in Matthew 14:33 "Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.' and the disciples worshipped him as God Matthew 28:9 "And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him." A demon possessed man was delivered from demonic oppression when he worshipped Jesus Christ ( Mark5:1+13)
Despite being Jews, the disciples were willing to and eventually martyred for their believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ .
Prayer; Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and ask to be filled with your Holy Spirit and power to make great progress .Amen
