FREEDOM FROM ANXIETIES

By Rev.Michael Benson Ajayi .
John 5:16-27, ".....And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him because he had done these things on the sabbath day."
The Jews were miraculously fed with manna while in no-man's land during their exodus from Egypt to the promised land .In Exodus 16  Moses commanded them to gather twice as much manna on the sixth day because there would be no gathering on the seventh day.  This was a prelude to the observance of the seventh day as a  Sabbath day in the ten commandments given to Moses on Mt. Sinai on the two tablets of stone (Ex. 20:8-11).
The Sabbath day was a memorial of the day of rest on the seventh day of creation. Man and beasts of burden too time off work to rest during the week according to Exodus 23:12, our minds and bodies need regular rest for efficiency and productivity.Under the new testament , we are not condemned by God for not observing the Jewish traditional Sabbath day but reminded of its symbolism of the rest we receive in our souls when we put our trust in Jesus Christ for our sustenance  Colossians 2:16-17 .
The Sabbath also symbolized the transition of the Jews from slavery to freedom by the mercies of God (Deut 5:15) . Under the dispensation of grace, the ceremonial observance of the Sabbath was a  foretaste of things to come and that are now fulfilled in Christ.
God's plan is for believers to daily enjoy the rest that stems from the Sabbath and this is only made possible when we cease from doing things by our own effort and wisdom by allowing the Spirit of grace express Himself through us (Hebrews 4:1-11). The Sabbath rest under the New Testament is not a day but a relationship with God through Jesus Christ (Gal. 2:20; Heb. 4:10). It is the same way a baby in the mother's womb isn't  concerned about how food is prepared but is catered for by the mother through the umbilical cord. The believer's rest in God's love makes him or her an instrument that brings rest to others in a chaotic world through their confidence in the word which says   "This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles." Ps 34:6 KJV
As you read this now, receive freedom from your anxieties in Jesus name.
