Simple steps on how to sell yourself to your audience as a preacher of the gospel.
Ask questions in every discussion as a way of showing interest in your audience (Prov. 18:13.) People easily show interest in us when we are interested in them .
Learn to be a good listener , it tells your audience you have respect for them amd gives you a better insight of the topic on ground (Jam 1:19) . People easily pay attention to us when they observe how much resect we've shown them by listening to their point of view.
Allow them to express themselves freely without restrictions ,when we allow people speak their heart freely it gives us an oppotunity to really know their state of mind. It gives us the oppotunity to identify the weaknesses in their belief system ,this is important in building an argument against wrong theology and philosophies (Prov. 20:5, Matt. 12:34b.)Ask what they believe in (Act 26:27) while seeking for points of agreement (Acts 17:23-28)
Make attempts at identifying with your audience while acknowledging that nobody has the monopoly of knowledge. People detest preachers who create the impression of a "know it all" (1Cor 9:19-22) In the process of identfying with your audience ,it is imperative that you share your life experiences with them , such testimonies builds confidence in your hearers (Acts 26:1-20) and try to give verifiable points in order to gain trust.God does not need your help in the conversion process ,therefore ,there isn't any need to exagerate facts( Mk. 4:2) While sharing the gospel it is best when we use contemporary happenings in our surroundings as means of explaining biblical truth ( Lk 13:1-5)
We should be compassionate in our opinions and dispositions to current events (Psalm 126:5-6,Matt 9:36). There is absolutely nothing wrong being emotional afterall the scriptures says Jesus wept when he saw the way people responded to Lazarus' death.We should be patient while explaining facts to our audience , people are less hostile to the message of the gospel when we show decorium (Acts2:40) sometimes a little entertainment is all that is needed to break the ice and be very determined in winning soul for the kingdom of God (Lk. 14:23 ) Finally, allow your audience make an uncoerced commitment to living for Christ and remember to keep praying for them.
