HOW TO LOCATE YOUR CALLING THROUGH YOUR PASTOR (Part 1)
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
2 Tim 1:5-6 KJV “ When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”
1 Tim 4:13-15 KJV “Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.”
The church of Jesus Christ is likened to an army ( Philippians2:25, 2Timothy 2:3) and as such everyone has been called to carry out one or more functions as directed by the commander in chief and his chiefs of staff (Prophets, pastors ,Teachers ,Evangelists ,Apostles ). The are no pew warmers in God’s house , everyone has been called by Him to carry out an assignment in the body of Christ (1cor.7:17,20,,24) . Our calling is targeted towards saving those who are not yet saved and helping the newly-saved attain the maturity needed to become disciples of Christ . It is troubling to see persons who have been church for years and cannot boast of one soul that got born again and is filled with the Holy Spirit through them. There salvation is questionable. This is largely due to the fact that a lot of persons are yet to locate their pastor. As a pastor it is the focus of my ministry to have those under my care become active Disciples of Christ. It is summarized in our Motto: “Saving the unsaved and perfecting the saints”
How do you start in your journey of locating your place in Christ’s army? God has set in the church leaders who are to be shepherds of His flock. Shepherds or pastors are called to protect , direct, correct, feed, teach and care for the sheep . It is through there oversight duties that members develop in a healthy and balanced way. The local church is the wisest and safest place to develop one’s calling and this requires being under the watchful eyes of pastors who are loving, faithful, loyal, truthful and committed to the lord and the flock. Prophet Samuel discovered his calling while diligently serving his pastor Eli likewise as we come under the authority of the pastor assigned to us and while seeking for ways to be useful and being ready to go the extra mile (Matthew5:41) to achieve the goals of our family church, our ministry begins to bud. We should also bear in mind that Eli had human flaws ( he failed in his marriage and had a dysfunctional family ) the scriptures says 1 Sam 3:11-14 TLB “Then the Lord said to Samuel, "I am going to do a shocking thing in Israel. I am going to do all of the dreadful things I warned Eli about. I have continually threatened him and his entire family with punishment because his sons are blaspheming God, and he doesn't stop them. ."
The errors from our pastors should be seen as a blessing to us , we have firsthand account of the consequences of breaking the law of grace. This puts us in a better position to make the right choices. It is also proof that God is the teacher of truth and your background is no barrier to the fulfillment of God’s purpose for your life. Samuel did not allow the fact that he lived in a house of sinners stop him from fulfilling his assignment likewise we are expected to pray for our pastors and not allow their shortcomings limit us from attaining our set goal which is to discover our ministry. There are no perfect pastors, likewise no perfect churches; perfection only exists in Christ Eccl 7:20 TLB.” And there is not a single man in all the earth who is always good and never sins”. God allows pastors go through life’s experience so they could have sufficient tools to teach others.
Prayer : Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and savior and yield myself to be used for your glory in Jesus name .
