DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
Eph 4:30 NKJV “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption .”
Mark 3:28 " But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: " KJV
The Holy Spirit possesses the characteristics of a personality; they include   Intellect (The ability to think and reason), Sensitivity (The ability to feel things) Will (The capacity of choice and decision)
He is not just a mere power or influence, only a person can have feelings , it is for that reason that we are exhorted not to ‘grieve’ the Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:30) just as  Ananias and Sapphira “lied against Him and paid dearly for it” (Acts 5:3,4). They challenged the authority of the Holy Spirit by trying to frustrate the church through financial starvation. Impersonal power e.g electricity is incapable of such feelings but a person can be grieved, lied to, tempted and vexed .The Holy Spirit is very passionate on how we spend the money given to us by the Father. Sin thrives in our communities and Satan is given the advantage over the church when we do not spend our money in the promotion of the gospel virtues . Of what use is your business or job to the Holy Spirit (Zech1:17,Haggai 1:5-10).
The scriptures attributes the following expressions of personality to the Holy Spirit. He is sensitive “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, (Eph. 4:30). He is a Comforter “Then had the churches rest … and were edified, and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost …( Acts 9:31). He communicates “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “set apart for me… (Acts 13:2). He is a teacher “But the counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (Jn. 14:26He unilaterally exercises His will: “All these are the work of one and the same Spirit and he gives them to teach one, just as he determines,”( 1 Cor. 12:11 NIV.)
He can also think “The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the spirit is life and peace,,,” (Rom 8:6) and Pray “…the Spirit helps us in our weakness, we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us …”( Rom. 8:26. niv). He disapproves of certain actions “Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia” (Acts 16:6 NIV).
He is the miracle worker in the church of Christ and can use anyone or thing as He so desires  “And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues and prophesied … and God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul, …”( Acts 19:6,11 NIV).
These attributes and expressions are common with a personality which an impersonal power does not have; therefore the Holy Spirit is not impersonal. The Holy Spirit is symbolized by Dove,Thunder, Wind, Rain, oil, Fire, clothing, etc in relation to His various functions on earth .He is right where you are and speaking to you through the voice of your subconscious .He wants to be in you.
Just as a human body has a digestive  , nervous and circulatory systems all functioning differently but interact and are in harmony with one another likewise ,the Holy Spirit , The son (word) and the Father (Source ) are in harmony with each other.  1 John 5:7KJV says "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
Prayer : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my Salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to break the yoke of poverty in Jesus name.
