HABITUAL FAULT -FINDING HINDERS GRACE FOR PROSPERITY
Philippians 2:14-15 NLT
"Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.".
The English dictionary defines ' complaining ' as :finding fault, express displeasure and 'arguing' is defined as; dispute, making claims, giving reasons. The above scripture isn't referring to the momentary complaints we make, rather, it is referring to a life of obsessive or habitual complaints and arguments.
Fault- finding gives Satan express access in to a marriage, business, relationship and ministry : it is the shifting of blames to other persons other than oneself resulting in contentions and bitter rivalry that sometimes turns deadly.
It is born out of selfish ambitions: a result of comparing oneself with others. James 3:14-16 NLT says "But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind." Whenever we replace God's word with man-made wisdom, we tend to believe that pride is a virtue instead of humility: this results in unnecessary competition and rivalry between friends ,spouses, neighbours and relatives . It is the desire to be more relevant that leads to habitual fault-finding and arguments.
Adam and Eve were victims of this trap: they found fault with God's wisdom ,began to play the blame game; preferring Satan's wisdom to God’s and eventually lost their place in the garden of Eden(Gen.3) . Habitual complaints and arguments leads to poverty and a separation from those sent to help us. Nobody likes to be close to a habitual fault -finder , the scriptures says in 1 Samuel 17:28-30 "And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. ...." David turned away from his brother’s habitual fault-finding :partnered with strangers ; it is better to be with a stranger who believes in your potentials than a family member who does not. David eventually became king of Israel but his brothers missed out on their chances of promotion through him due to their habitual complaints and arguments.
Fault-finders have lost passion for God’s word and prayers with fellow believers (Heb.10-20-25) .This leads to a contentious spirit which is behind the destruction of many homes with married folks seeking for persons outside their marriages who will accommodate their shortcomings. The scriptures says in Proverbs 21:19" It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman." Fault-finding is the number one cause of infidelity . A spinster or bachelor who habitually engages in fault-finding in the public domain, is doing a lot of damage to his or her marriage prospects. Fault-finding is the greatest hindrance to an unmarried person finding a marriage partner. Fault-finding makes it difficult for spouses to enjoy each others company and children flee from a fault-finding parent.
It is easier to overcome a life of habitual fault-finding when we realize that we all have faults too and before God sins or faults do not exist in sizes (James 2:10) before , we seek change from anyone, we should first of all effect the desired change on ourselves Matthew 7:1-5 ( Ecc.7:20 "For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not." There is no christian without a major fault that's why we need a saviour in Jesus Christ. We should daily ask the lord to fill our hearts with love for our family, church community and pray and fast at least once a week for the breaking of an undesirable habit in our lives while applying the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus Christ in faith (1Jn1:7)" But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." Praying with other believers while partaking in the holy communion(Matt 26:26-28) destroys the appetite for habitual complaints and arguments.
Prayer :Heavenly Father forgive me for my sins against you ,I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive grace for uncommon excellence
