HOW TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF NEAR-SUCCESS AND HOLE- IN –THE- POCKET SYNDROME
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
John 21:6 NKJV “And He said to
them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find
some." So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of
the multitude of fish.”
The hole-in-the-pocket syndrome is
described in Eccl TLB 5:11-12 “The more you have, the more you spend, right up to the
limits of your income. So what is the advantage of wealth-except perhaps to
watch it as it runs through your fingers!” It is not the
will of God for us to labour and not eat the fruit of our labour. The scriptures
say in Isa 3:10 “Tell the godly
that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have
earned!” God’s plan is for us to prosper and be
in good health (3Jn2). We have been delivered from the curse of poverty (Ga3:13) therefore, one should say "God made me poor". That is contrary to His divine nature .God wants us to be rich . 2 Cor 8:9 KJV “For ye know
the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your
sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
There are two key
words that we must take note of in 2Cor 8:9, the first is “grace” which is from the Greek work ‘Charis’ meaning ,the divine influence upon the heart, and
its reflection in the life; including gratitude, benefit, joy, liberality,
pleasure, thank-worthy. These are the qualities of the wealthy. The second word
that is worthy of note is the phrase “might be rich” it is the Greek compound word “Plouteo” which means: wealthy (literally or
figuratively), it means to be increased with goods, be made, wax rich. Some
religious folks seem to hypocritically identify with poverty as though it is a
sin to be wealthy; they are quick to make those gifted with tremendous wealth
feel guilty. It is not a sin to be rich, made, increased in goods; 2 Cor 8:9
it is a
provision in our redemption through Christ. There is absolutely no godliness in poverty.
The purpose for our wealth is highlighted in 2 Cor 9:8 AMP . “And God is able to make all grace
(every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may
always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient
[possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].” It is not the
will of God for you to be poor
The "near- success" or failure at the edge of breakthrough syndrome is
described in 2 Kings 19:3-4 “…Today is a day of trouble, insults, and disgrace. It
is like when a child is ready to be born, but the mother has no strength to
deliver the baby.” Poverty and the 'near success' syndrome is man-made. It is the result of selfishness and a disconnect from God's purpose for our lives . God commands us to spend a percentage
of our income for the propagation of the gospel (1 cor.16:1-3. Gal.6:6) failure to do this gives Satan the advantage.
The disciples in John 21: 3-6 could not catch any fish until they received grace through the teaching of the word of God, this also in luke 5:6 Peter was rewarded with a great harvest after Jesus used his boat for missionary work. God isn’t interested in any venture that will not bring about the spread of the gospel (Haggai1:6-10). We receive angelic help in our jobs , businesses when we invest in missionary work (2kings 6:17). This is what the scriptures describes as the' disciples or prophet’s reward' in Matt 10:40-42 NIV ".. Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward,….” Persons who are committed to spread of the Gospel often enjoy goodwill from God and man (Ps50:5).As you read this now, be delivered from the hole-in-the-pocket and near success syndrome in Jesus name.
