YOUR SECURITY AGAINST HEARTBREAKS

By Pst. Michael Benson Ajayi
John 4:14 NKJV but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."
The story of the woman at the well in (John 4:7-28) is typical of our daily quest for fulfillment and satisfaction. She was religious and must have been very beautiful and influential going by the fact that she had been married several times. She could best be described as a strong, religious, educated, independent woman. She had everything going for her except that she could not find satisfaction in any of her achievements; she still wanted more out of life. Her trips to Jacobs well besides the fetching of water was a quest for emotional and spiritual satisfaction.
Man is tripartite by nature; we are spirit with soul and a body. The spirit is the subconscious part of man that communicates with God. It is the center of awareness. Its functions include, praying to God, receiving revelations, worship, and discernment. It is like the electromagnetic energy that forms the network controlling the telecommunication systems .The soul is that part of us responsible for self awareness; it is the part that makes us aware of our environment. Its functions include perception, imagination, emotion and reasoning. The body is the conduit through which information is received through our sensory mechanisms (eyes, nose, ears, tongue, skin, eyes)
Each part of our tripartite nature is nourished by a particular nutrient. The scriptures speaks of the need for the preservation of the spirit, soul and body (1Thess 5:23). We are trained to feed our souls and body but never our spirit; this is so because Satan has blinded the eyes of many to be spiritually ignorant. It is in ones spirit that we receive satisfaction.
The woman at the well like most persons had thought that spiritual need could be satisfied through having more sex, money, fame and religion but none of these can satisfy the spiritual yearnings of man. The scriptures say the joy of the lord is our strength or spiritual nourishment (Nehemiah 8:10)  . Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It is as nourishing to the spirit just as an apple is to the physical body. Through the Holy Spirit we receive peace, meekness, goodness, gentleness, tolerance, temperance and self control. These are the virtues needed for a great relationship and they are achieved through the indwelling of the Holy Ghost in our spirit. No amount of religion, money, drugs, hypnosis or transcendental meditation can make an unfaithful, depressed spouse become faithful, only the Holy Ghost can.
If this woman had known this truth much earlier, she would have been better placed to manage her emotions and relationships. It is the quest for the perfect man or woman without the leading of the Holy Spirit that is behind the emotional chaos in our lives. Jesus said none is good (Matt19:17). There is no such thing as a good marriage partner outside the Holy Ghost.  It is the indwelling of the Holy Ghost that brings about the good in us. Receive the Holy Ghost now (Acts 1:8, Luke 11:13).
