TOTAL FREEDOM FROM EVIL CYCLES AND GENERATIONAL CURSES
BY Michael Benson Ajayi
John 9:2 AMP “His disciples asked Him, Rabbi, who
sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?”
Jesus' claim to divinity pitched him at loggerhead with the religious people of His time
(John8:58-59) therefore miracles where a necessary tool to authenticate His claims .These miracles were unlike those of magicians who excited crowds by their acts but avoid any act that draw people to God.Giving sight to a man born without eyes was something only God could do.
It is generally believed by most
proponents of Jewish theology and traditionalists that God's punishment for the sins of one’s ancestors or parents extends to the great -grand children Thus, being born blind was God’s punishment for the sins of the parents:in effect the blind man was under
an ancestral curse.
This doctrine portrays God as an evil overlord
and an unjust judge. It is tantamount to saying that a child born in prison to a woman serving life imprisonment must spend his entire life in prison because he /she was in the mother's womb when the crime was committed. .
Undoubtedly, there are physical consequences for our errors, for
instance a drunk father who decides to drive a car with his entire family on-board
even when he is judged unfit to drive definitely risks killing his family
through an accident. This isn’t a curse but a consequence of human error. Placing
one’s hands on a
hot stove will definitely lead to getting burnt; this again isn’t a curse but a law of nature. We
reap what we sow and sometimes people suffer for our bad decisions, this too
can’t be said to
be a curse, if it were, then every pain we suffer should be termed a curse. The
preacher whose vehicle ran out of petrol while driving and the one who arrived
late to a church meeting should both be termed cursed.
In Matt25:41 Jesus defined a curse to
mean an execration or to set someone apart for eternal damnation. The only sin
that can bring about a curse upon an individual under the dispensation of grace
is the rejection of Jesus Christ. Gal3:13 say Christ has redeemed us from the
curse of the law therefore to reject Christ is to accept full responsibility
for the violation of the entire law;and being guilty in one aspect, is to be
guilty in all aspects. Sin doesn’t exist in sizes likewise righteousness, therefore,
when God forgives sins, it is without exemption according to the law of redemption. Jesus paid
for our sins once and for all to avoid the repetitive process as required by
divine justice: our redemption and
justification is a onetime deal, hallelujah!
Prophet Ezekiel spoke of this era
in Ezek 18:2-4 "Why do you quote this proverb concerning the land of
Israel: 'The parents have eaten sour grapes, but their children's mouths pucker
at the taste'? As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, you
will not quote this proverb anymore in Israel. For all people are mine
to judge—both parents
and children alike. And this is my rule: The person who sins is the one who
will die.” Salvation isn’t transferable, likewise sins. To
claim that the punishments for sins are transferable from ancestors to children
then salvation should be transferable by the law of equity but this isn’t possible. This informed Jesus’ answer to his disciples in John
9:3-4 NKJV “Jesus
answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of
God should be revealed in him.” thus implying misfortunes are not necessarily as a result
of sins however, they all give us an opportunity to have God showcase His
miraculous working power in our lives by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Trust God for a miracle now , the price has been paid..
