POSSESSING YOUR POSSESSIONS GOES BEYOND CONFESSION
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
John 11:14 "Then said Jesus unto
them plainly, Lazarus is dead."
The dictionary defines “Confession” as a formal statement
of religious beliefs (Merriam-Webster dictionary). The scripture says in Heb
10:23 KJV “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for
he is faithful that promised;)” the word 'profession' is the Greek word ‘homologeo’ which
means: to assent, i.e. covenant or promise, acknowledge through giving thanks.God wants us to be in agreement with His will for our lives individually and collectively .
Modern teachers of faith claim we would
eventually receive what
we keep declaring as ours. What this implies is that the fellow that
keeps
saying ‘I am a billionaire’ will eventually become one even if he or
has no visible source of income. And the lady who says 'brother John is my husband' will eventually get married to him. However, it isn’t always the
case.
What this presupposes is that God is obligated to grant all our
hearts
desires whether they are in alignment with His plans for our lives or
not. But this is contrary to what the scriptures says in Isa 55:8-9"My
thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the Lord."And my ways
are far beyond anything you could imagine .For just as the heavens are
higher
than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts
higher
than your thoughts.” God’s plans and ours aren’t the same. He only takes
actions that are in concordance with His will, the scriptures says in Eph 1:11…” he makes
everything work out according to his plan.”
It is imperative that in our pursuits, we seek God’s perfect will early
in all
that we do. Whatever success story achieved outside God’s will never
stands the test of time because His will ultimately prevails. Thus,
confessions
outside God’s will are not only discouraging but confusing and
dangerous; so
many lives have been lost as a result of this. It sends a wrong signal
about
the integrity of God’s word.
Many persons have made shipwreck of their faith as a
result of this personal error. If we receive what we confess then Jesus who had
gone to raise Lazarus from the dead wouldn’t have been able to do so haven
earlier declared that he was dead in John11:14 , this was contrary to his profession which was
expressed in John 11:11 Then he said, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen
asleep, but now I will go and wake him up." He professed Lazarus was
asleep even when He literally confessed his death. The truth isn’t always the
fact according to biblical faith. Factually Lazarus was dead but truthfully he
was alive in Christ.
Things aren’t always what they seem to
be that’s why we need God’s counsel in all that we do. Sometimes, to
allay fear we may downplay the reality of our
situation as in (2
Ki. 4:20, 26) that does not mean
that faith always denies the fact of a situation. The biblical
confession is based
on faith that is intellectual, emotional and volitional. This faith is
founded on a irrevocable deep-seated conviction premised on a personal
covenant with God ,acknowledged through joyful thanksgiving and
confirmed
with overwhelming peace.
As you receive Jesus Christ as lord and saviour and read this now, receive grace and wisdom to overcome your difficulties in Jesus name.
