Luke 10:25-37
"…You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."
But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?....."
The scriptures say in Eph2:8 that it is by grace that we are saved. The word 'grace' is the Greek word ‘Charis’ and it means: to be acceptable and favoured by God .It is a divine influence impressed upon the heart of the recipient leading to him or her achieving extraordinary feats .It is an empowerment to excel and to be distinguished .
Many people out of pride resist the truth about justification by faith and the grace of God and have exposed themselves to emotional traumas and satanic manipulations. They love titles and public recognition like the lawyer in (Luke10:28) and his mundane “acts of righteousness “ . He was self- centered, putting himself before God and his fellow man. His definition of neighbour did not go beyond close friends and those who adored him.
Such persons are not sincere and often evasive in their discussions with respect to their relationship with God and fellow humans to avoid been held responsible for their actions. They seek to be justified in the sight of God through their actions. They are difficult to please like this lawyer who would rather be justified by works instead of by the free gift of grace so that he could have something to boast about.
If asked the following questions: "have you fulfilled all the promises you have ever made ever since you became religious? If the answer is 'No' that makes such a person a covenant -breaker :a sin before God ; and if asked if they have ever lusted after someone of the opposite sex to whom they are not married , lusted (craved) after someone's property (car, houses, jobs, money ,opportunities etc) if yes , it is against God's righteous decrees .Certainly, no religious person would ever claim not to have ever salivated at the sight of another person's meal. The list of these secret sins which only the lord sees is endless, they include pride, bitterness, unforgiveness , doubt, hypocrisy, greed, hatred . It is for this reason that we need a saviour , who would guarantee our salvation because going by God's strict standards , person would be justified by observing religious duties .Jesus came to fulfill that purpose. Rom 3:23-24 AMP " Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.[All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus,"
The life of self-righteousness is full of excuses and can not lead to a positive spiritual growth and submission to God’s will. It is full of fears and inability to identify true love like the lawyer in Luke 10:28 who had no clue of who Jesus Christ was because he could not see beyond his religious goggles.

Faith demands that we totally rely on God and with respect to our salvation we must have faith in God’s grace through Jesus Christ. Grace is not enough without faith just as the sun is incomplete without sun-rays. It is through faith we accept God's free gift of salvation, which was provided by grace.
Prayer : Heavenly Father, forgive me of my sins against you, I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation, I receive him as lord and saviour and receive grace for unlimited provisions in Jesus name.
