GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY AND HIS UNLIMITED PROVISIONS

  Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Ephesians 1:11  "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated  according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the  counsel of his own will:"
God’s plan for us is summarised in 3jn1: 2 " Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in  health, even as thy soul prospereth. " Jesus said in John 10:10.."I  am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more  abundantly."
God doesn't want us to live a life of barely getting-by but a life of abundance . It is by His providence that our supplies are guaranteed.  He is not bound by the prevailing economic situation. He created the universe and the laws that governs it. He is above every rulership ,dominion and works all things according to His will  (Ephesians 1:11).
He is omnipotent (all-powerful ),  omniscient (all-knowing )and omnipresent (all-present ) and can do an infinite number of things at the same time therefore meeting the need of one person is absolutely inconsequential in comparison to what He can do. The scriptures says in Ephesians 3:20 "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all  that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us," God has unlimited capacity to supply our needs, if you gave him a cup to fill some provisions , He won't stop pouring in His goodness until you say 'stop'. That's the meaning of my cup runneth over in Psalm23: 5. He is the God of the overflowing blessings. He does so to demonstrate the magnitude of the love He has for us.
As a demonstration of His love for His people, He sent manna and quail from heaven to His people in the wilderness. (Exodus 16). And sent ravens to supply food to Elijah (1kings17:4-5) He also uses high-handed rulers to fulfill His purposes for His people. (Isaiah 45:12-13,Ezra,7:1-10) He is the potter and we are the clay.(Isaiah45:11-13) it is therefore futile to resist His will by questioning how the potter should use his clay , eventually none of God’s promises goes unfulfilled. (Jer.23:14) His plans for us is good, not of evil and to give us a glorious future.
He is not limited by human numbers, the weaker you are against your enemies the better it is for Him, Judges 7:1-25, and He sometimes  gives us tasks beyond our human capabilities so that the excellency of His power may be revealed through us .The scriptures in Deuteronomy 31:7-8 speaks of how Joshua was given the responsibility of leading over 3 million Jews to the promised land , this required providing for security, food, sanitation, transportation, resolution of disputes, education, entertainment etc. The financial liabilities for leading that number of persons  in modern day economy would run into the billions of dollars. Yet through God’s leading, Joshua was able to fulfill that assignment.
God's strategy for bringing about the greater good of all may require a person suffering a major crisis . An example of this is Joseph who was sold into slavery by his brothers, in Gen.45:1-14 and after over a decade of slavery, he ascended to the position of the chief coordinating minister of the economy in Egypt. He eventually, reunited with his family who were battling to stay alive by virtue of a global famine.  While reconciling with his brothers he acknowledged that the events that led to him being sold as a slave was an act of divine providence designed for the future good of the family and he reassured them of his forgiveness towards them (Gen.50:15-21) Likewise, you may be going through a horrible experience, but at the end God will turn everything around for your good .  The scriptures says in Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things  work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the  called according to his purpose." all things will eventually harmonize to bring about the fulfillment of God's purpose in your life. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us perseverance and grace for long-suffering while going through crisis  (Gal.5:22)
Sometimes God’s compassion and breakthroughs will be preceded by momentary grief (Lamentations.3:31-33) because God has instituted both hardship and good times as part of the human development process.Nobody is born happy,  we all came out of our mother's womb crying. Tears and joy are part of the human experience, without one the other would loose meaning.
God cares for us as a shepherd cares for the sheep (psalm 23) the sheep trusts the shepherd for provisions. This may be through unusual circumstances, for example, through servitude and imprisonment God prepared Joseph for leadership in Egypt(Acts 7:9-10) and Moses was kept alive and  schooled in Egypt as a prince  so that he could lead Israel( Acts 7:20-22) also Daniel was given intelligence to fulfil God’s purpose.  And a ruthless anti-corruption  king Cyrus (Isaiah 45:13)  a non-Jew was used by God to liberate His people from oppression (Ezra 1:1). God can use anyone and anything to fulfil His purpose in our lives. We shouldn't limit ourselves by our religious or traditional beliefs, a wrong belief system makes the word of God of non effect in our lives (Matthew 15:6)
As you read this now receive grace for strength to go through the process of your preparation for a glorious life in Jesus name.
