GOD HAS NO FAVORITES: YOU ARE AS IMPORTANT AS THE CELEBRITY PREACHER
By Rev.Michael Benson Ajayi
Mark
12:14 KJV “ And when they were come,
they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest
not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful
to give tribute to Caesar, or not”
The word ‘carest’ is the Greek word ‘melo’ it means ; to be of
interest to, i.e. to concern as though a person matters. : ‘for ‘
is from the Greek word ‘peri’ it
means ‘above’ . Therefore, the phrase ‘carest for no man’ means Jesus does not treat
one person above the other . God has not appointed any one preacher, church or ministry
from which the anointing flows and to serve as a standard for all missionary
work. There is no such thing as the topmost church or ministry in the world. These
ideas stems from worldly business marketing strategies (monopoly). It increases
market share and value of religious paraphernalia and tourism fees.It is the
concept behind religious pilgrimages worth billions of dollars annually.
Apostle Paul suffered persecution from some
elders of the early church who thought they were God’s favorites because they
saw Jesus in the flesh. They desired special recognition from him as observed among
some religious leaders today with their self-imposed standards of worship. This
type of theology is ungodly and carnal, it results in human worship and takes
the focus from God and his word and places it on these human idols. It creates confusion
and frustration as to what God’s standards are and a low self –esteem among followers.
It creates room for corruption in the society.
The concept of God having favorites is
against the principle of equity, justice and the concept of salvation by grace.
So-called ‘favorite’ are considered as being above the law and correction; a
recipe for lawlessness in the society and heresy: they claim until the ‘favorite’ is appeased
through a ‘miracle seed’ (bribe) prayers would not be answered. Prayers are made in the name of the God of prophet so and so
instead of the name of Jesus Christ, an indication that those who undertake
such do not have a personal relationship with the Lord.God loves us equally.
The church
in Corinth was embroiled in this partisan, carnal display of worship (1 Cor 1:12-13)
Some saw Paul as more anointed than Apollos and vice versa .This renders
followers unstable ,powerless and brings about division in the society.
The scripture speaks against idolizing preachers ; God has no favorites Gal 2:6-7 NLT says “And the leaders of the
church had nothing to add to what I was preaching. (By the way, their
reputation as great leaders made no difference to me, for God has no
favorites.). Do not look down on anyone,
Eph 6:9 says “ ….you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.”
No preacher is above correction and
definitely nobody is above the law
(Col.3:25) and 1 Peter 1:17 says “ …the
heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward
you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him” As you receive Jesus Christ as lord and read
this now receive grace to overcome inferiority complex in Jesus name.
