BEWARE OF THE MODERN DAY SONS OF PROPHET ELI
By Rev.Michael Benson Ajayi
1 Sam
2:16-17 “The man offering the sacrifice might reply, "Take as much as you
want, but the fat must be burned first." Then the servant would demand,
"No, give it to me now, or I'll take it by force." So the sin of
these young men was very serious in the Lord's sight, for they treated the
Lord's offerings with contempt.”
If there is a statement most church goers
do not like being mentioned is the phrase “tithes and offerings “the reason
being the abuse of this very important part of Christian worship by the modern
day sons of Eli. The process of giving of tithes and offerings was meant to be
done by free will out of love and faith ;not by coercion or manipulation .God loves a cheerful giver whoever because of the activities of the sons of Eli giving is far from being cheerful but a source of misery to many.
The sons
of Eli were given the responsibility of assisting Eli in the day to day running
of the temple , including the sacrificial offerings
.By the law, leftovers after the
fat was taken and burnt was to be given to the priests but instead they
insisted on taking the best parts for their consumption ; women who could not
afford to give offerings became sexual slaves to the sons of Eli . This displeased the lord and it led to the
death of Hophni , Phinehas and prophet Eli who did nothing to restrain them
(1Sam.2:13). This underscores the importance of discipline in families .It is
not enough to show one’s disapproval for a misdemeanor, corresponding actions
should be taken to forestall a re-occurrence, failure to do so will be seen as a collusion
by leaders in the perpetration of the crime. Many a modern church leader are
aware of this evil perpetrated in the house of God and the shame it brings upon the body of Christ but like Eli they are beneficiaries of these crimes through regular donations without asking to know the source of such offerings ,therefore they are quiet.
The scriptures condemns this act both in the Old
Testament and New Testament, the bible refers to it as 'wages of wickedness' (2Pet.2:15) .This is one of the major reasons for the level of poverty in underdeveloped
nations were the lack of regulatory laws
allows these modern day sons of Eli to run lose amassing so much wealth for themselves and families while the society becomes poorer . Church members are manipulated and coerced into bringing landed properties, cars, money, jewelry ,children or spouses in
exchange for blessings that Jesus declares as free of charge (Matt10:8). 1 Sam
2:29 “….they have become fat from the best offerings of my people !..” I once met a man who was told by one of such prophets that he will die by 4 pm if he
did not 'sow' a seed of 2 Million Naira or his Toyota Camry car, I was taking a walk with my wife at about 3pm when I met him, he was distressed since he did not have that amount, haven already given the prophet =N70,000 cash and was about to donate his 60 inches
TV . This man claimed the prophet had exhumed some charms (juju) from his residence as proof that he was in danger..
I told him to return back home arriving at his residence by 6pm to proof that he was lied to ; we proceeded to his room where I saw two tortoise and something like bones wrapped in red clothes . I told him to have faith in God and narrated
how these prophets plant charms in people’s homes and cars to defraud them and as proof he should check the fuel compartment of his car when I am gone ,he did and found another one.I instructed that he should report to the police which he did and recovered his money. He was saved from the distress when I shared the gospel with him. It is important we read the bible personally in prayers asking for understanding because of the increase of wolfs in sheep clothing to avoid falling victims of the modern day sons of Eli. As receive Jesus
Christ as you lord and savior and read this now, receive grace to overturn every
evil prophesy against you in Jesus name.
