YOUR EVER PRESENT AND UNFAILING SOURCE OF HELP
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
John 20:22-23 NKJV “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and
said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.”
In John 14:16 Jesus promised His followers another ‘comforter’ a word which means an
intercessor, consoler: advocate; He demonstrated these functions while
with them bodily. The word ‘another’ is often misconceived to be another person as
different from the first by many but contrary to that
opinion, it is derived from the Greek word ‘allos’ which means ‘else’ and its grammatical structure is a singular,
masculine demonstrative adjective . To better understand this, imagine a motor boat passing through a river ; it will result in waves at its bank in
quick succession, the first and another and so forth .The
river remains the same however with multiple influences manifested in waves. The number of waves does not mean multiple rivers. Jesus was saying in effect that the disciples will witness
another wave of His essence (Holy Spirit) that will not be in anyway different from Him being
present bodily. The Holy Spirit and
Jesus is one and the same person or else God would be considered as being heterogeneous. Jesus spoke demonstrated this in His commandment to His followers Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name (singular) of the father , son and the Holy Ghost .
The Holy Spirit empowers us to live a righteous life by guiding us through the complexities of life:
“but when He,
the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. ...” (Jn. 16:13).
He is our teacher and reminder of the
principles of the glorious life “But the comforter, which is the Holy
Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things,
and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26).
He reveals each person’s character and shows us how to relate with each other. With Him marital bliss is possible and family feuds avoidable “But as for you, the anointing (the
sacred appointment, the unction of the Holy Spirit) which you received from Him
abides (permanently) in you; (so) then you have no need that anyone, should
instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything ...” 1 Jn. 2:17
Amp Bible.
He revitalizes our physical bodies: Rom 8:11 AMP “And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the
dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will
also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies ...” The Holy Spirit
imparts life, health and vigor into our weak bodies and renews body tissues. Whenever
we pray with the Holy Ghost, a life generator is turned on ;regenerating dying body cells : bringing them back to life. 1 Cor
14:4 NIV “… He who
speaks in a tongue edifies himself…., The word 'edify' is the Greek word ‘Oikodomeo’ which means to be a house-builder, i.e. construct or
confirm and embolden. Speaking in tongues is consequent on one receiving the
Holy Ghost (Acts 2:4,Acts 19:6) and is an invigorating exercise in the Holy Ghost. It is a quick fix for boredom and depression.
We
are empowered for service with a passion: serving God with human strength is unproductive because
of the level of wickedness in the world. But the Holy Ghost gives strength, protection and
zeal to serve and love “But you will
receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;. (Acts 1:8). The word 'power' used
here is the Greek word “dunamis” from which we derive the word dynamo : the name of a self regenerating
power supplying device .
Thus, the presence of the Holy
Spirit in us empowers us to authenticate scriptures through teachings, miracles,
signs and wonders. The person with the Holy Ghost is a sign and a wonder to
their generation; this is what distinguishes us from others. As you receive Jesus Christ as lord and saviour and read this now receive the Holy Ghost and power for extraordinary breakthroughs.
