CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE REVEALS GOD’S WILL
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
Luke 22:10" And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in."
Jesus' disciples where preparing for the Jewish feast of Passover and needed information on where the lord wanted it held. They were told to look out for a sign which served as the circumstantial evidence that was required to know God’s will concerning the task at hand.
This is one way through which we can know what God’s will for our lives is. God is spirit and in the realm of the spirit information is more explicit unlike the carnal or fleshy realm where the crisis of meanings is common place. Therefore, the inter-phase between the spiritual and the earthly realm requires comparing the unknown with the known. From the known we can then safely deduce the unknown, as stated in Romans 1:20 AMP "For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification], "what this means is that just as a balloon reveals the invisible gas contained in it, the invisible nature of God can be understood by the material objects in the world.
It is against this backdrop that it is safe to say that circumstantial evidence are indicative of a divine operation that can easily be understood if well grounded in scriptures. The word of God is truth and should form the bases upon which all analysis of spiritual matters should be made regardless of the language being used. The scriptures says in 1 Corinthians 2:13 AMP "And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit]." this underscores the importance of having the truth of God’s word lodged in our hearts before making comparisons. Most persons have drifted into the world of spirits without the word of God and have done great harm to many through their misinterpretations of circumstantial evidences while seeking to know God’s will. For example , events such as seeing a person swimming in a river could have positive interpretations such as prophet Ezekiel's experience in Ezekiel 47:1-10 which speaks of the manifestation of healing virtue upon the church , unfortunately most African and South American churches often interpret water related circumstances to mean an evil 'marine spirits or mermaid attacks ' and this has led to the destruction of many lives especially women. Followers of this school of taught do not stop to think for a moment that millions of litres of water is used daily in swimming pools, drinking, cooking, bathing etc therefore where did the spirits go to. Our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and He doesn't share accommodation or worship in the same temple with demons.
There are contrary circumstances that requires taking a corresponding action such as in the case of Elijah and the dried brook( 1kings17:1-9) it was obvious that there was need for a change in perspective and in this case, he changed location. Also in Acts 20:3-6 Paul learnt of an ambush against him while planning on a missionary trip and that informed a change of plan.
We should be flexible in judging circumstances because God isn't bound to any one way in revealing His will. , we need to always put on our breastplate faith and love . The scriptures says in Ecclesiastes 11:4 AMP "He who observes the wind [and waits for all conditions to be favorable] will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap." The conditions where not right when Jesus fed the multitudes in Matthew 14:15-21 and Matthew 15:32-38. Faith doesn't require a favorable condition to operate, it is not limited by circumstances, through faith we change our world. It is the master key to living a victorious life.
