YOU SHALL NOT FAINT NOR BE DISCOURAGED
By Michael Benson Ajayi
Matt 14:13-15 NKJV “When Jesus heard it, He departed from
there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it,
they followed Him on foot from the cities. And when Jesus went out He saw a
great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their
sick.”
By tradition, John the baptizer was Jesus’
first cousin and to hear about the gruesome death of His cousin was enough to
unsettle Him but He was not deterred as He rather did the unthinkable by
healing those who followed.
Discouragement
is the sense of disappointment or
failure as a result of not being
able to complete a task. The enemy will
stop at nothing to discourage those genuinely committed to the spread of the
gospel. But the scriptures says in Isa 42:4
NKJV “He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has
established justice in the earth;” the spirit led servant of God will stop at
nothing until the gospel of the Kingdom is heard all around the world.
There are moments
when discouragement wants to set in ; this occurs whenever we no longer see God
as being trustworthy enough to meet our needs. Thus, we embark on self-help
projects without a divine sanctioning and the result could be very unpleasant.
Peace and stability are guaranteed to
those who have love for God’s word ( psalm 119:165, Phill :4-6-7),
Discouragement could emanate as result of trying to do things by our
strength Zech 4:6-9b and by risen of wrong timing (Eccl3:1).
Usually
when we try to bite more than we can chew by embarking on a project beyond our
schooling or outside our divine calling leads to discouragement. The scriptures
says in 1Ps 131:1 AMP “ LORD, MY heart
is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in matters too
great or in things too wonderful for me.” The ability to acknowledge one’s
limits and boundaries by reason of training is important to avoid frustrations
in life. It is better to acquire the requisite training before embarking on any
project. That is what the period of waiting is actually about. We should
therefore allow peer pressure drive us in to starting projects we can’t
accomplish. Sometimes in the process of proving one’s worth before our peers we
end up destroying very important relationships in our lives. That’s why the
scripture says there is no wisdom in comparing your success story with someone
else’ to avoid falling into Satan’s trap (2 Cor. 10:12.)
Peace comes from recognizing that God loves us
and has blessed us unconditionally regardless of our physical circumstances and
that He His plans for us are not of evil but good to give us a future. Therefore
we should trust God for everything and always pray about every situation we
find ourselves in . Phil 4:6-7 AMP says “Do not fret or have any anxiety about
anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (
definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to
God.”
And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a
soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God
and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace]
which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your
hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
