DO NOT ALLOW SUPERSTITIONS HINDER YOUR MIRACLE
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
SUPERSTITION AND TRADITIONS ARE
A HINDRANCE TO MIRACLES
Acts 17:22 KJV “Then Paul stood in the midst of
Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are
too superstitious.”
The
word ‘superstition’ as used here is a Greek word which
derives its meaning from two other words: the first ‘deilos’ which means' to dread', be timid, faithless
and fearful. The second is the word ‘Daimon’ which means a supernatural spirit of a bad nature:the devil. Superstition is the fear of evil spirits. In Acts 17:23 the
scriptures says it is an attribute of those who serve a God of whom little or
nothing is known. It is like being married to a person and yet one knows little
or nothing about him or her.
A
void or gap in any relationship easily gets filled with suspicions. Likewise
the worship of God outside a personal relationship elicits fear. This reflects
in the way we relate to each other. Superstitious folks are suspicious of
everyone (Prov 17:20) and prone to being victims of the Post Hoc fallacy also known as Confusing
Coincidental Relationships With Causes.
A ‘Post Hoc’ is a fallacy with the following form: A occurs before
B. Therefore A is the cause of B . This fallacy is committed when it is
concluded that one event causes another simply because the proposed cause
occurred before the proposed effect. For example, a man dreamed of a snake on a
tree and became ill that day. Instead of declaring that goodness and mercy follows him (Psalm23:6) he rather concludes that seeing a snake in one’s dream results in sickness but failed to understand
that the Israelites were revived by looking at the image of a snake(Num 21:8)
and the Lord said be wise as a serpent . Also a fortune is made from the sales of snake anti-venom. This is an example of the negative effect of the post hoc fallacy on society.
Superstition is the enemy of scientific discoveries; it negates research
into better ways of living. Jesus opposed the religious Jews for replacing the
word of God with human traditions saying in Mark 7:13 “Making the word of God of none
effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like
things do ye."
Superstition is often disguised as prophesies by
many a ‘seer’, this limits how God answers a
person’s prayers
(1Kings22:4-37) and has led to the destruction of many lives. The tradition of
men hinders faith without which we cannot receive miracles from God.
Unfortunately, most Church activities are nothing but traditions of men. They
have no scriptural and logical foundation and thus lack the capacity to change
lives (Col 2:19-23) that’s why despite
the proliferation of religious worship centers, society is no better off. Jonah’s preaching changed an entire nation
likewise Daniel’s.
When we seek God with all our hearts,
He reveals Himself to us ( Jer29:13) those who know Him shall be strong
(courageous, fortified) and accomplish much (Dan11:32) . The apostle Paul wrote
over 50% of the New Testament scriptures and worked great miracles and yet
yearned to know God more (Phil 3:10). The word ‘know’ is the Greek word
‘ginosko’ which means to- allow, be aware of,
feel, perceive, be sure of, understand. It requires a daily
intimate relationship with His word which when spoken will not fall to the
ground until what He says about you is fulfilled.
As you read this may the
consciousness of God overshadow you now in Jesus name .
