BLAME- SHIFTING HINDERS PROMOTION
By Rev.Michael Benson Ajayi
Gen
3:10 KJV “And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid,
because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
The fall of the first human Adam was the worst thing that
ever happened to the humanity. It marked the beginning of the decay of the
human character. Gen
3:10 highlights the consequences of this fall, firstly, it brought about fear
instead of faith and secondly, nakedness or a sense of vulnerability. Nakedness
is the product of a low self-esteem, emotional and physical insecurity.
Nakedness and fear results in hidden
potentials. Persons struggling with these attributes, live below God’s designed
standard for their lives. The setting in the Eden viz-a-viz the forbidden fruit was for God to have a one-of-a-kind relationship with Adam founded on unconditional love .Adam misunderstood this and allowed Satan misinform him on God’s character and
that was the origin of religion (man’s definition of who God is Gen 3:5) till
this day.
Man was not made perfect, there was need
for improvement, growth or else God’s mercy would be of no use. Growth is a characteristic
of a love-based relationship and mercy adds value to it. Adam fell into Satan’s trap
of blame –shifting. It is a tactic of always pushing fault on someone else. The
psychology behind responsibility attribution is that it constitutes a strong
motive for the delegation of a decision and a basis for predicting punishment.
Adam blamed God for his failure and wished Him punished, Gen 3:12 KJV says “And
the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the
tree, and I did eat.” Likewise Eve blamed Satan in Gen 3:13 KJV “And the woman
said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.” But Satan understanding the
implications of blame-shifting refused to blame anyone and the mantle of
leadership over Eden was taken from Adam and given to Satan.
Blame-Shifting
strips one of his or her right to rule over a situation. Responsibility and
leadership go hand in hand, Adam declared himself not responsible enough to
take charge of Eden. Complaining and being hyper-critical of other people makes
you sound petty, small and weak .It strips you of the power to rule; making you ineffective
in any given situation and like Adam you soon lose relevance.
The scriptures speak of Adam and Eve
being thrown out of the Garden of Eden (Gen3:24)it did not mention Satan. He took over their
position. Through Christ we are restored back to our rightful place in God (Col3:3). We should
always look for ways to claim responsibility and declare “hold me accountable”
This makes us more relevant and boosts our self –esteem.God can only change our circumstances when we claim responsibility, That's what intercessions, prayers, supplications are for and this is how greatness is achieved. If Adam had apologized and claimed responsibility, he would have been
retained in the Garden of Eden. Reconciliation is a prerequisite for meaningful progress As
you read this now receive grace for the restoration of all that you’ve lost in
Jesus name.
