OBSTACLES TO ANSWERED PRAYERS
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
Dan 9:2 “ in the first year
of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years
specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would
accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.”
NKJV
Prophet Daniel was one of the Jews taken
into captivity by the king of Babylon as a consequence of their rebellion
against God’s word. This was in fulfillment of the prophecy in Jer 25:8,11-13. Three years had gone by after the expiration
of the 70 years trial period, and yet the Jews were still in bondage just like
a lot of Christians experience unnecessary delays in many areas of life. Did
God lie about their deliverance or was prophet Jeremiah a false prophet? Does
the holy scriptures contradict itself ? God forbid.
The scripture says it is the lack
of knowledge and understanding that leads to bondage .. To understand scriptures,
we interpret contexts with other context (Isaiah 28:10,13) therefore, premium
time should be allotted to the study of
God’s word. The key to our freedom lies in the pages of the Holy Scriptures.
Unfortunately, most Christians have been misled by end time prophets into
believing that their problems are always
as a result of a witch or a curse. This is far from true (Col.1:12-13). No
witch or wizard has the capacity to prevent the spoken word of God from being
fulfilled in the life of a Christian (John1:4-5). Witches can’t oppose a Christian
that is full of God’s word, it is tantamount to a suicide mission and they know
it. Witches are tormented whenever God’s
word is spoken and they literarily flee at the presence of a Christians loaded
with God’s word (luke 8:28).
Therefore, it was the neglect of the word of
God by these Jews that led to their bondage
just as a lot of Christians are in bondage for want of God’s word, Isa 5:13 NKJV
says “Therefore my people have gone into captivity, Because they have no
knowledge; Their honorable men are famished, And their multitude dried up with
thirst.” Every problem has a solution in the word of God.
Through the word we discover hindrances to
prayers being answered and they include: fighting for what we want instead of
asking for it (Jas. 4:2) whatever we have to fight to acquire cannot be enjoyed,
therefore, dialogue remains the most effective form of negotiation to achieve
meaningful development: this requires respect for each other’s constitutional
rights and the humility to ask. Some of the things we pray so hard for can
easily be gotten through good neighborliness that’s why we should avoid teachings
that suggest every neighbour or relation is a potential witch or wizard. Let
love guide you through your dealings and our breakthroughs will become a
reality especially if we are not asking with selfish motives ( Jas. 4:3)
.People easily give to us when they find
out that it is for a mutually beneficial
purpose .
The misconception of grace as
taught by many preachers which says God overlooks our sins and prospers us
regardless of whether we are in obedience to His commandments or not has done
so much damage to many. It’s like saying that a marriage will remain blissful
regardless of the infidelity and physical abuse of an unrepentant husband
against his wife. The grace of God doesn’t give us the license to defraud one
another and it seeks for improvement in character (Rom.5:1-3, 1Cor:6:8.1Cor:7:5).
Grace destroys sin wherever it is found, that’s why God created the legal
system (Rom.13:1-7) or else terrorists would be celebrated as role models. Therefore,
asking God for a miracle while making a practice of a known sin hinders prayers from being
answered Ps,28:5, 66:18, Isa. 59:1-2. This happens when we have idols in our
hearts such as persons we depend solely on for survival (Eze. 8:5-18,14:1-3).
Something as casual as turning a
deaf ear to the cry of the poor beggar (Pr. 21:13) and casting aspersions
against preachers of the gospel hinders
prayers from being answered, all preachers aren’t criminals (Mica 3:2-4,) the scriptures says in Rom 14:4KJV
“ Who art thou that judgest another
man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be
holden up: for God is able to make him stand.” Bitterness against others hinders our faith
for miracles (Heb.11:6,James 1:6) , therefore keeping malice with a spouse or a
relation can hinder prayers from being answered (Mk11: 22-24, 6:12-15,1 Pet.3:7).May
your hearts be filled with grace for answers to prayers as you read this now in
Jesus name.
