ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT TO PROSPER AND PROTECT
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
Mark 1:13 KJV “And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him”
The word ‘angels’ is the Greek word ‘aggelos’ which means a messenger; a pastor. Angels are divided into two major groups , firstly pastors and secondly the supernatural beings assigned to enforce God’s word on earth. These supernatural beings have the capacity to change form especially as wind and fire ( Psalm 104:4 ). They can also take the shape of human beings and are sent to test our level of generosity because God will not give a person what he or she can’t afford to give out for missionary work . The scriptures say in Heb 13:2-3 NKJV “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.”
After spending 40 days without food in the wilderness, Jesus was refreshed by angels who must have prepared meals for him. The scriptures also speaks of an angel shutting the mouth of lions in a den in other to protect Prophet Daniel (Dan 6:22). They are assigned to the ministers of the gospel to assist them in the dissemination of the gospel and when threatened they have a mandate to protect these ministers by every means possible (2Kings 6:15-17,Acts12:7-11). Angels also expedite the fulfillment of godly prophesies by servants of God (Gen16:7-11)they are also responsible for godly marriages (Gen 24:1-67)
Satan is a created being and an angel that was thrown from heaven because of his rebellion against God (Ezek28:13-17). As chief musician and entertainer, he was given the right to choose but he abused it and was expelled with a third of the angels in heaven who took sides with him (Rev.12:4,7-9).
Adam rebelled against God in the Garden of Eden and by so doing formed an alliance with Satan and his cohorts and legally instituted Satan’s government on earth with humanity as subjects. Jesus Christ did not deny Satan’s kingdom on earth in Matt 4:8-9 NKJV “Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me." Jesus never refuted Satan’s claim in this dialogue but refused to surrender His mandate as God to Satan. Matt 4:10 NKJV “Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'" Jesus unequivocally declared himself as God who deserves worship. This was before our redemption from sin through the sacrifice on the cross..
Humans are no match for angels, they are extremely powerful, and it takes another angel empowered by the Holy Ghost to overpower a fallen angel. Before Jesus paid the price for our redemption, angels had to fight hard against Satan and his demon spirits to enforce God’s will as in the case of Daniel in (Dan 10:13-20) the forces of darkness resisted God’s messenger for 21 days until there was heavenly reinforcement .
After Jesus paid the prize for our salvation the Holy Ghost was given to man (Acts 1:8) and we regained our authority as rulers of the earth through Jesus Christ ( Matt28:18). Angels now have the authority to resist Satan on earth something they couldn’t do before because of the fall of man in Eden. Satan is not in contention with Jesus, he is a creation and cannot content with his creator. On the day of judgment, an angel will be sent to imprison Satan (Rev.20:1) . Religion arrogates so much power to Satan and his demons; this is contrary to Jesus’ teachings in Luke 10:19. He has no power over the born again Christian (Heb2:14-15, Col 1:12-13, Matt10:8).Satan and his demons can only destroy a person by their permission, this is done through negative confession as a result of ignorance of God’s word (Matt18:18,Hosea 4:6).
The born again Christian who has made a lifetime commitment to teach the gospel has access to God’s mighty angels ( Heb1:13-14) and they will continue to serve us as long as we keep declaring God’s word (Psalm103:20) .
