THERE SHALL BE NO PEACE FOR THE WICKED
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
Dan 6:18 NIV “Then the king returned to his palace
and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought
to him. And he could not sleep.”
Daniel was among the captives taken to
Babylon by king Nebuchadnezzar in 605 B.C where he served in the government for
about sixty years during the reign of four kings.
In their jealousy over Daniel’s success, the other government
officials mounted a campaign of calumny against Daniel. And though they
searched for a flaw in his character, they could not come up with any damnable
evidence .Daniel was conscientious in his duty and was adjudged wise, faithful
and meticulous. Through prayer and
meditation on God’s Word he
lived a disciplined life. This is possible when we serve not to receive
accolades from man but as a duty towards God. The scriptures says in Eph 6:5-7
AMP “Servants , be
obedient to those who are your physical masters, having respect for them and
eager concern to please them, in singleness of motive and with all your heart,
as [service] to Christ [Himself] — Not in the way of eye-service [as if they were
watching you] and only to please men, but as servants (slaves) of Christ, doing
the will of God heartily and with your whole soul; Rendering service readily
with goodwill, as to the Lord and not to men,” God expects us to honour him every opportunity
we have without the fear of been caught. The fear of contrary opinion to our
commitment to worship has led to many putting off the fire of the spirit and
exposed themselves to painful temptations. Your success will always evoke
hatred: the only way to please the crowd is through compromise and failure .
Daniel's colleagues
knew about his unalloyed commitment to worship and they plotted against his
downfall by instigating king Darius to institute a draconian law that
stipulated death sentence to anyone who refused to worship his self –made idols. Daniel was arrested,
tried and sentenced to die by being mauled by lions. Those who want to leave
godly lives are a hindrance to the nefarious scheme of the wicked and they will
be persecuted for their uncompromising righteousness (2 Tim 3:12-14 NKJV) “Yes, and all who desire to live
godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution
...”
Whenever we are oppressed by the wicked, they seize
to have rest of mind. Do not be deceived by their display of material wealth;
that’s a cover for
the life of misery they’ve been
sentenced to (Psalm 73:1-27, Rev 3:17). There is no peace for the wicked. Darius lacked peace after his fatal choice to
kill Daniel. The world defines peace as
the absence of problems. However, God's peace is not a function of our
circumstances. Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit only given to them that obey
God and it is forever (Gal.5:22, Heb. 13:8). We can have great peace even in
the midst of terrible problems through our faith in Jesus Christ. "Thou
wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he
trusteth in thee" (Isa. 26:3). Isa 57:21 NKJV says "There is no
peace, “Says my God,
"for the wicked." For the righteous God says in John 14:27 AMP “Peace I leave with you; My [own]
peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing
yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be
fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] As you read this now receive overwhelming peace in Jesus name.
