HOW TO OVERCOME THE HOLE- IN –THE- POCKET AND NEAR-SUCCESS- SYNDROME
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
John 21:6 NKJV “And He said to
them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find
some." So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of
the multitude of fish.”
The hole-in-the-pocket syndrome is
described in Eccl TLB 5:11-12 “The more you have, the more you spend, right up to the
limits of your income. So what is the advantage of wealth-except perhaps to
watch it as it runs through your fingers!” It is not the
will of God for us to labour and not eat the fruit of our labour. The scriptures
say in Isa 3:10 “Tell the godly
that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have
earned!” God’s plan is for us to prosper and be
in good health 3Jn2. We have been delivered from the curse of the law and therefore
made free from the curse of poverty (Ga3:13). No one should say that God is
trying to make them poor. That is contrary to His divine nature and under the
new dispensation Jesus took the curse of poverty upon himself that we may be
rich. 2 Cor 8:9 KJV “For ye know
the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your
sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
There are two key
words that we must take note of in 2Cor 8:9, the first is “grace” which is from the Greek work ‘Charis’ and it means the divine influence upon the heart, and
its reflection in the life; including gratitude, benefit, joy, liberality,
pleasure, thankworthy. These are the qualities of the wealthy. The second word
that is worthy of note is the phrase “might be rich” it is the Greek compound word “Plouteo” which means wealthy (literally or
figuratively), it means to be increased with goods, be made, wax rich. Some
religious folks seem to hypocritically identify with poverty as though it is a
sin to be wealthy; they are quick to make those gifted with tremendous wealth
feel guilty. It is not a sin to be rich, made, increased in goods; 2 Cor 8:9
says that’s one of the
provisions of our redemption in Christ. There is absolutely no godliness in poverty.
The purpose for our wealth is highlighted in 2 Cor 9:8 AMP . “And God is able to make all grace
(every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may
always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient
[possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].” It is not the
will of God for you to be poor
The near- success syndrome is
described in 2 Kings 19:3-4 “…Today is a day of trouble, insults, and disgrace. It
is like when a child is ready to be born, but the mother has no strength to
deliver the baby.” This is
commonly known as failure at the edge of breakthrough. Both of these
experiences are caused by man. Poverty is man-made. They occur every time we
engage in a venture for selfish purpose without a connection to Christ's purpose on earth. God commands us to spend a percentage
of our income for the purpose of the spread of the gospel in (1 cor.16:1-3. Gal.6:6)
regularly to ensure that the spread of the gospel is not hindered. The
disciples in John 21: 3-6 could not catch any fish until they received grace
through the teaching of the word of God, this is paralleled in luke 5:6 . Jesus
first used Peter’s boat to
preach the gospel and rewarded Peter with grace for an extraordinary harvest.
God isn’t interested
in any venture that will not bring about the spread of the gospel
(Haggai1:6-10). Teachers of the gospel have angels at their disposal that they
assign to assist persons in exchange of the assistance rendered by these
individuals in the spread of the gospel(2kings 6:17). This is what the
scriptures describes as the' disciples or prophet’s reward' in Matt 10:40-42 NIV ".. Anyone who receives
a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward,….” When God’s business of spreading the gospel becomes a key part
of our investment, angels are released to expedite the process of supernatural
breakthroughs in our businesses and jobs. In any competitive situation, that
fellow who is committed to spreading the Gospel through regular financial investment
will eventually carry the day Ps50:5.As you read this now, be delivered from the hole-in-the-pocket and near success syndrome in Jesus name.
