FIRST THINGS FIRST: AND EVERYTHING FALLS INTO PLACE

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Luke 10:40 - "But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me."
The  object of all human pursuits is the sense of fulfillment and peace .  Peace is defined as a stress-free state of security and calmness that comes when there’s no fighting or war, everything coexisting in perfect harmony and freedom.
Our needs are insatiable  and in the early stages of our lives , we are trained to believe that peace is guaranteed  if we had more money, education, social recognition, or by being religious. But contrary to all expectations, none of these can truly guarantee lasting peace. It is a chasing after the wind.
Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit only received through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Global insecurity is on the increase despite the improvements  in commerce , medicine, agriculture and technology because man thinks he can achieve peace outside a personal relationship based on empirical evidence, wisdom and understanding of God.
In Luke 10:  Martha, an influential religious woman whose  brother; Lazarus, Jesus raised from the dead, and her sister; Mary, hosted Jesus Christ and His ministry team to dinner , while Mary preferred listening to Jesus’ teachings , Martha on the other hand had issues with  misplaced  priorities and was corrected by Him. In a similar circumstance,  in Mattew26:6-13, while Jesus was having supper in the  home of Simon the leper , Martha was once again engrossed in serving while Mary her sister worshiped Jesus by anointing His feet with a very costly perfume.        Martha had become over-acquainted with Christ and despite her position as one of Jesus' notable follower she had issues with misplaced priorities. Jesus said in John 4:34 KJV “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work” He had His priorities well spelt out: it was to make the will of the Father known to all. Therefore , it was expected of Martha to take advantage of Jesus’ visits to learn more about  God’s kingdom . True worshipers like Mary are sensitive to this course and are quick to respond to the Master's call.
Martha like many in the church was a workaholic, and was disappointed at the lack of recognition. The same plays out in christian marriages and relationships . Such persons fill left-out and are easily frustrated in relationships. People want to be loved at their own terms like a baby desires to be rocked back and forth whenever he or she cries for attention. You can't make anyone love you against their wish but you can get closer and fill loved by developing interest in what they cherish most.We can't make God love us more than He already does. His love for us is same and constant.
Nothing should take the place of seeking first the kingdom of God in our lives, unfortunately , many people today are occupied with things that keep them from hearing the words of Jesus. As good as these assignments may seem , they are of no value when not well prioritized . A good thing done at the wrong time automatically translates in to being a bad thing. As you read this , receive grace and wisdom to put the first thing first in your family in Jesus name.
