STABILITY IN THE LORD

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

"So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.1 Cor 15:58 NLT

. " And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."Col  2:6‭-‬7 NLT

The believer in Jesus Christ is likened to a tree : trees of righteousness (Isaiah 61:3) Regular uprooting and replanting of a tree over a long period of time eventually results in an unfruitful tree . A tree has to be nourished , pruned , watered  and in the right environment for it to be fruitful.  This is what it means to be stable .

The bible says in Eph 4:14 "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;"  Stability starts with sincerely loving the Lord and keeping the heavenly goal .  " Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth."Col 3:1‭-2

Confessing one's sins and problems to the lord is necessary for stability in the Lord . The bible says "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." Hebrews 12:1 NLT
God positions persons in our lives to guide us , therefore, we should be willing to receive correction and reproof .The bible says  " For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life." Proverbs 6:23 NLT and "You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God" .Heb 3:13 NLT
To be stable,  you must have a personal conviction on the Lord , it is not enough to follow the crowd , one must be persuaded beyond reasonable doubt . Know what you believe .The bible says "You should be fully  convinced.."  Rom14:5b and " So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away".2 Peter 1:10 NLT
Your aspirations as a believer can affect your stability . Avoiding vain thoughts and daydreaming from persons with divided loyalty results in stability .The bible says"  I hate those with divided loyalties, but I love your instructions. ..." Psalm119:113 NLT
Stability requires that we endure hardship in hope . Every person that had attained greatness with God had to go through hardship . ( 2Tim 2:3; Heb 11:24-25, ) Do not be over attached to personal personal desires . ( Phil3:7-8, 1 Cor.9:27) and reflect on the consequences of backsliding (Prov.5:8-13, Prov.21:16;2 Pet2:20)
Prayer : Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy ghost and power to overcome temptation in Jesus name.
