DO NOT DROWN IN YOUR DREAMS
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Luke 8:14 NKJV “Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who,
when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures
of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.”
It is the will of God for us to live the good
life in abundance and He has made provisions for our needs to be met. God’s ability to supply our need isn’t predicated on the state of the
world’s economy or
other situations in life. We usually make plans based on available resources
which are often limited in supply. God’s plan for our provisions is far
beyond what any man can phantom, He fed five thousand men at a time excluding
women and children with two pieces of fish and five loaves of bread. He is able
to nourish birds that have no farms and grasses in the wild without a gardener.
He provides spouses for animals in the wild without jobs, businesses and
payment of dowries and they give birth according to their desires. If this can
be done for these lower class creatures, what can He not do for His beloved
children?
God is all-benevolent, the scriptures says Ps
84:11 NKJV “For the Lord
God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those
who walk uprightly” . God will not hold back anything
from His people under the dispensation of grace. Sometimes, we assume that it
is by reason of our ‘holiness’ that we are blessed with provisions;
that is absolutely not the case. We are blessed because of Jesus’ uprightness and our faith in Him qualifies
us as partakers of the rewards of His uprightness, the scriptures says in Eph
2:8-9 NKJV “For by grace
you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone
should boast.”
The word ‘saved’ is a Greek word ‘sozo’ which means to be healed, protected, preserved, to do
well. Therefore, it is not on account of our individual ‘holiness’ that we do well in business, excel
in our jobs and marriages. It is through faith in the finished work of Christ
that we receive our daily supplies. It is the failure to understand this that
has led to many persons in the church given up on their dreams despite the fact
that they have shown a great deal of commitment and suffered hardship as a
result of their resolve to live the Christian life. Some have resolved to
embrace the world’s view of ‘Heaven only helps those who help
themselves’. This logic
is unfounded and poor. If we could help ourselves, why seek heavens help in the
first place; it is illogical to help oneself, you can only be helped by someone
other than yourself. God says He will help us (Isaiah41:10)
When we allow the word in our minds get
chocked with the ‘thorns’ of life (the overwhelming desires
to be rich and longings for sensual pleasure), we tend to believe in our
self-righteousness rather than the righteousness that comes by faith in Christ,we do so whenever we
claim we are better than the fellow that received a breakthrough and therefore Favour
isn’t fair.
God has blessed us and given us equal
opportunities (Eph1:3).The word choke in luke 18:14 is the Greek word ‘sumpnigo’ which means to
strangle completely, literally to drown, to crowd. The word of God doesn’t get into our hearts to produce
faith for breakthroughs under this condition. When we set deadlines for
breakthroughs for ourselves while comparing ourselves with others, we soon
become discouraged, bitter begin to drown in our dreams. Nobody wants to be in
a drowning ship and so we lose great opportunities and relationships as a
result. The period of waiting for a miracle is a period when we should allow
the word of God dwell richly in our hearts through teaching one another and by
intimate worship with godly songs that edifies the heart (Col3:16). As you read
this ,be lifted in Jesus name.
