LIVING BY THE LAW OF THE SUPERNATURAL
By Pst. Michael Benson Ajayi
Luke 15:12 KJV “And the younger of them said to his
father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided
unto them his living.”
The need for self determination was
what led to this young Christian seeking for separation from the family of believers.
He taught that the world had a better package than what the church had to offer
and he was convinced that his skills at finance management would see him
through but that wasn’t the case as
a he soon became bankrupt. The scriptures says he “..wasted his substance with riotous
living.” (Luke 15:13 KJV). The word ‘riotous’ is from a Greek word ‘asotia’ which means ‘unsavedness, i.e. profligacy, he compromised on his security as a
result of his disconnection.
This parable underscores the
relevance of the importance of spiritual relationships, mentorship and our
growth in faith. This young Christian’s condition degenerated to the point of eating with pigs.
His turnaround began when he came to a point of self awareness. Disconnection
from a God-ordained spiritual connection often leads to the loss of self
awareness. Under this condition we become prey to negative peer pressure and in
a bid to be relevant we become wasteful jeopardizing our future in the process.
There are three types of wastage experienced as a result of profligacy. The
first is a spiritual burnout as a result of unsupported spiritual devotion. Disconnected devotees have been known to participate in endless church programs
while seeking for divine intervention .This is a major reason for spiritual
burnouts resulting in a disinterest in church activities. This leads to the
second kind of wastage: emotional wastage. Spiritual exhaustion leads to emotional
traumas and this in turn produces hyper-irritability in people. When so much passion
is placed on a fruitless venture, it creates a sense of rejection. Emotional
insensitivity is a byproduct of spiritual burnout (Psalm77:2).; this has
destroyed many Christian homes.People easily give up when love isnt reciprocated. Extravagant financial expenditure is one quick way
of filling the void of the lack of validation, it’s the third type of wastage associated with disconnection.
When the woman with the issue of blood
made contact with Jesus he said “..Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue
is gone out of me.” Luke 8:46 KJV
The word ‘virtue’ is the Greek word ‘dunamis’ which means, force, miraculous
power, abundance. The fellow in (luke 15 ) ran out of virtue which comes by
walking in love and faith. Paul charged young
timothy in 1 Tim 4:14 KJV “Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given
thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery”. This miraculous power for
abundance was activated when the God-ordained leadership prayed for him by
laying on of hands. A disconnect automatically results in dormancy (1Thes 5:19)
. In 2 kings4:1-6 A poor widow experienced a turnaround when she received ‘dunamis’ through Elisha and the rich
Shunemite woman received ‘dunamis’ to destroy the yoke of barrenness
and untimely death in her family. (2Kings4:8-36)
Repentance is the beginning of recovery (Prov
28:13), in luke 15:18 the young man confessed he had sinned against ‘heaven’ : a Greek word ‘ouranos’ which means happiness, power, the Gospel or
Christianity. The worldly concept of an independent life is counterproductive
to the spread of the gospel and a healthy family orientation; inter-dependence
is the key to a life of virtue and increase in value(1Cor12:13-27,Eph4:16). God
has called you to a life of virtue and glorious living.
