BUILDING STRONGER RELATIONSHIPS

By Rev.Michael Benson Ajayi
Zechariah 7: 9 "Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts,  saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions  every man to his brother:"
The Israelites in Zechariah's time where plagued with prolonged economic instabilities, marital crisis, insecurity  and overwhelming fear and their plea for help landed on deaf ears because  they neglected true justice, mercy and love for one another.  These are the threefold cords that the scriptures speaks of in Ecclesiastes 4:12 "And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken." Whenever a family or community is driven by unfeigned  passion or love for each other, mercy for the repentant offenders and an impartial justice system, it becomes impenetrable against the onslaught of the enemy. This is what leads to stability in families.
It is  the combination of stable families that produces a stable community, local government area, state and eventually a country therefore,  whenever Satan desires to destroy a nation, he perverts justice, mercy and love at the family level. He is seeking to redefine the family structure in today's church through the introduction of humanistic theology that promotes the disregard for divinely established  authority in the family. The scriptural structure with the man as administrative and spiritual head of the family is giving way to women and children as bearing rule thereby escalating the war between the sexes (Isaiah3:12).
1Cor.10:11 says "Now all these  things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for  our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."also in 2Peter 2:6"  And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned  them with an overthrow, making  them an ensample unto those that  after should live ungodly;" this means that under the dispensation of grace, God still frowns against injustice, the lack of love and unforgiveness . What happened in the old testament should serve as a warning to us.
The modern church in a bid to be more appealing to a corrupt world has introduced a perverted version of God's justice system. This system seeks to justify the lack of accountability.  True justice demands accountability to an operating legal system and to the society . We are expected to be accountable to the legal system that governs marriages in other to enjoy the benefits of being in a society governed by the rule of law, this guarantees the sustenance of our rights, privileges and provisions.
To reject accountability of any sort exposes us to exploitation and oppression.  Ironically, many Christians cry fowl and expect the same community whose laws they've desecrated to come to their rescue. This is behind the incessant abuse observed in the church of Christ.  The Israelites suffered great losses as a result of the lack of accountability. Lawlessness takes us out of God’s protective cover by diminishing our faith in divine security ( Zech.7:12-14) . To avoid criticism we often wonder from place to place seeking for where lawlessness prevails and this is all that the enemy needs to destroy like he did to the prodigal son (Luke 15:1-22). The scriptures says in Proverbs 27: 8" As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place."  Wandering away from the place of accountability gives strength to our oppressors .
Before a man abuses his wife, he would first seek to know how strong her social, spiritually and economic security  structures are before embarking on that path of folly  .We seldom hear of the daughter of a serving  army general  being molested by her husband for fear of the evil that would befall the abuser  ,likewise, the daughter or son of a prophet. Refusal to be accountable to anyone is the bane behind the 'wandering' syndrome in Prov.27:8.  It is difficult to be committed to a marriage or business relationship with a wanderer . Investment  on a wanderer is highly risky and prone to painful losses (Luke 15:13). We should not be afraid of being Judged . When Jesus said 'Judge not' in Matthew 7:11  he was not saying that we shouldn't criticize , the word judge as used here is the Greek word 'Krino' which means to avenge, damn, he was referring to the other meanings of the word which means to distinguish, decide,to try, esteem, conclude, punish, these are required in the learning process. The scriptures says vengeance is the lord’s.We should not take the laws into our hands . Jesus is against all forms of hypocritical judgments.
Imagine a woman catching her husband in the very act of adultery on her matrimonial bed and when questioned he defends himself by saying' don't judge or else you'll be judged ' that's what is being taught in some churches and has led to all sorts of perversion in the body of Christ.
In 1Cor.6:3 the scriptures says we shall judge angels and  in 1cor.5:1-5 a man was judged for having sexual relationship with his father's wife.In acts 5:1-10 Ananias and his wife Sapphira were judged by Peter for misappropriation of church funds. In today's church they would have been promoted to the office of deacons. This is the reason behind the underdevelopment in our communities and  instability in marriages .
Prayer :  Heavenly Father forgive me for my sins against you. I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation. I receive him as lord and saviour and receive grace for stability in my relationships in Jesus name.
