DO NOT BE OVERWHELMED WITH REGRETS

Proverbs 24:16 "For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief."
One of the realities of the Christian life is that righteous men do fall short too. The scriptures says in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; " We can never be too careful enough to avoid falling . The best plan for success is prone to failure that is why the cooperate world has force majeur (the act of God) as an element to be considered in contractual agreements. It is because of the possibilities of failures that insurance companies exist.
Disappointments are part of life and should not be always considered as a curse, especially when you are convinced that you have put in your very best into a project, be it a marriage, relationships ,ministry or business, because some disappointments are as a result of some other person's bad decisions and not ours.
For example, it was not God's fault that Adam and Eve chose to eat of the forbidden fruit neither could He be blamed for the chaos in the world brought upon humanity as a result of Adam's choice to rebel against God. In both cases the scriptures shows that God was not pleased with both situations as shown in Gen.6:7 "And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them." The word 'repenteth' does not mean : regret as thought by many because that will be contrary to God’s nature of being all -wise and all- knowing, it is the Hebrew word "nacham" which means to sigh, i.e. breathe strongly; to be sorry,to pity, console or comfort oneself . It means God pitied humanity for the misfortune caused by Adam's disobedience in the garden of Eden. If that was not the case then Gen.6:8 would not have said Noah found grace in the sight of God despite being in the midst of the unrighteous who were a majority. That means humanity has the ability to choose what is right . It was God's pity for Man that Noah saw. The word 'grace' means 'pity' , like a mother has for a one -year old child wallowing in his vomit. Sin is like vomit (2Pet.2 :22) and we are prone to err as humans (Ecclesiastes 7:20) that is why we need God's grace to live in righteousness .
Whenever we err, we should not allow ourselves be consumed with regrets for that would lead to a deviation from our life purpose rather we should in repentance be grateful to God for the lessons learned. Elijah was consumed by depression and regrets and despite God’s rebuke and he became suicidal as a result of his depression (1kings19:4-10) .This led to an abrupt end of Elijah's ministry.(1kings 19:11-18). Elisha took over his place and became fruitful at the assignments Elijah complained so much about.
God does not give us assignments we cannot handle. One of the greatest resource material for wisdom is the book of Proverbs in the Bible and it is partly a compilation of king Solomon's errors and the lessons he learnt from them and thousands of years later we are beneficiaries of a man who refused to be stopped by regrets.He failed so many times in relationships and with his walk with God but was able to run the raise of faith till the end.
We should never regret living in righteousness, those who do so are ignorant of the deadly consequences of sin. Asaph said in Psalm 73:13-14 " Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning." He became frustrated when he saw the apparent prosperity of the selfish persons in the house of God and the heathen : this was due to his ignorance of the devastating consequences of living in unrighteousness in the long run. However, a change in his perspective resulted in his recovery (Psalm 73:15-28)
We are admonished to overcome regrets ((Proverbs 15:13) knowing that whatever experience we go through as long as we hold on to God's loving hands through His word would eventually leads to our promotion . The scriptures says in Romans 8: 28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. " the righteous person has a bright future and will eventually rule over the wicked and inherit the earth.
Prayer : Heavenly Father forgive me for my sins against you, I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation, I receive him as lord and saviour and receive grace for uncommon peace in the face of crisis in Jesus name.
