AVOID UNNECESSARY ARGUMENTS

By Rev.Michael Benson Ajayi

"Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are." Proverbs 26:4 NLT

" Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing." 1 Peter 3:9 NLT

The believer in Jesus Christ is described as a peacemaker ,the Bible says we should pursue after peace . We are called into the ministry of reconciliation. The church is expected to be a  promoter of peace .

The world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God. Those who are led by the spirit of God are sons of God. Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and they who a led by the Holy Spirit bring peace along with them.

Strife hinders peace and God's people are to avoid getting involved with strife as much as possible . The bible says " Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out." Proverbs 17:14 NLT and " A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people."2 Timothy 2:24 NLT

Quarrels just do not happen , there are initial signs . One of such is an increase in the tone of the voice and anger, when this happens you should listen carefully and think before you say anything to avoid unnecessary arguments.

The Bible says "Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.,"Proverbs 18:13 NLT and  "The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words." Proverbs 15:28 NLT

The scriptures teaches we should be slow to speak and quick to hear and slow to be angered .( James1:19) We should avoid getting easily provoked and answering harshly ( Prov 15:1, Prov 22:11) The bible says " There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking." Proverbs 29:20 NLT  and " don’t be in a hurry to go to court. For what will you do in the end if your neighbor deals you a shameful defeat?" Proverbs 25:8 NLT

Common causes of arguments include pride (Prov13:10,  1 Tim6:4) unhealthy cravings ( James 4:1) being friends with a hot tempered person ( Prov.26:21) Harsh words (Prov15:1) Hatred ( Prov10:12)  Envy (Acts13:45) love for money over people .

It is futile getting involved in an arguments ,the bible says  "If a wise person takes a fool to court, there will be ranting and ridicule but no satisfaction . "Proverbs 29:9 NLT and "Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt. So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you'.

Proverbs 9:7‭-‬8 NLT Arguments results in shame therefore, it pays to avoid them . There is no winner whenever spouses or believers engage in arguments . It is shameful .

"Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.'" Proverbs 17:9 NLT Arguments in a marriage could result in painful separation or divorce .

Prayer : Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to promote peace in Jesus name.
