SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS HINDERS BREAKTHROUGHS

"Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart; I am pure and free from sin”? Proverbs 20:9 NLT

  Self-righteousness is when a person thinks in himself or herself  that he or she is good or righteous by personal effort or good deed.

This is what the various religions in the world seek to achieve .You cannot make yourself righteous , that's why religious folks always struggle with guilt. You are not suppose to be guilty if you are righteous. 

The Bible says we are not as good as we think . Self-righteousness is synonymous with the proud : those who have fallen from grace . 

    True righteousness is only attained by faith in God. The scriptures says  "In the same way, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.”Galatians 3:6 NLT

 Righteousness is not a title a person can achieve by any personal effort . It is not a personal status , the scriptures says " and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith." Philippians 3:9 NLT. 

 "We are reminded that God's righteousness he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.Titus 3:5 NLT

  We should not think we are better than others . Such an attitude creates more enemies than friends and it reduces our self esteem and portrays the gospel in a bad light . Self-righteousness destroys marriages because it does not promote love in a relationship . It is hypocritical  . Such a person is not walking in true love because ""... Love is not .. boastful or proud" 1 Corinthians 13:4 NLT. Lifestyles differ by reason of cultural differences and difference in upbringing . We should not be easily offended when things are not done our way. For instance vegetarians and persons who do not eat certain foods should not be looked down upon. "For instance, one person believes it’s all right to eat anything. But another believer with a sensitive conscience will eat only vegetables. Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them."Romans 14:2‭-‬3 NLTBible 

  We are not as good as we think . The Bible says " For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard." Romans 3:23 NLT  and "'Not a single person on earth is always good and never sins." Ecclesiastes 7:20 NLT . A self-righteous, proud attitude angers and displeases God. The bible says "Yet they say to each other, ‘Don’t come too close or you will defile me! I am holier than you!’ These people are a stench in my nostrils, an acrid smell that never goes away."Isaiah 65:5 NLT  Self-righteous persons are disgusting to the Holy Spirit. 

   This behaviour makes us hate others and live in unforgivingness. This is why religious nations are at war with each other . It is the driving force behind religious extremism.  The Bible says "For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?1 Corinthians 4:7 NLT  "

 Prayer : Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Ghost and power to overcome sin in Jesus name.

CONSEQUENCES OF LACK OF FAITH

COMMON CAUSES OF DISUNITY.

Proverbs 29:22 NLTBible        Disunity is defined as : disagreement and conflict within a group. It is the greatest hindrance to the promotion of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Disunity creates an avenue for Satan to promote sin.       The causes of disunity are not farfetched ,they include : Unhealthy Crave for power or self- promotion. Whenever there is an unhealthy pursuit of influence in a family or group it results in resistance. Self-promotion gives birth to unfair practices and injustices. In Numbers 12: 1-15  Moses' sister Miriam and Aaron rebelled against him desiring to rule by force and in Numbers 16 :1-35 Korah led an insurrection against Moses desiring to be part of leadership.
