HIS KINDNESS : YOUR SHEILD AGAINST SIN.

 By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi.
Matt 10:28 "Don't be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell”.(NLT bible)
Jesus is not saying we should have a dreadful fear of the Father.  There are two words used to describe 'fear' in the Greek the first is “phobos” from where the word 'phobia' comes from; it means (to be put in fear); alarm or fright, be afraid, exceedingly, fear, terror. The second is ‘phobeo’ ; to be in awe of, i.e revere.
It is the second kind of fear that Jesus says we should have for the heavenly Father . The reverential fear of God is a demonstration of our love for Him. True love is sustained through reverential fear, it shows how much we value the one we  love, it is the bedrock of great relationships. Sin is the outcome of the absence of referential fear and it results in death . When applied in.a marriage, we discover the most important ingredient in a marriage is the mutual respect couples have for each other based on the fear of God the absence of which results in marital crisis.
It is not God’s will for us to live in fear 2 Timothy 1:7 says, "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."  The more we get rooted in God’s word , the  less likely we would become intimidated by life’s situation: there is no fear in God ,He is the embodiment of love . John 4:7,8,18 We should not serve God with dreadful fear , this is counterproductive to our spiritual development and it is unhealthy. (Hebrews 12:28) .
The ungodly dread is Satan's weapon of choice against God's people and through it many great potentials have been held locked up in our hearts for the fear of what may happen if we brought them to the open , consequently,  great relationships, marriages, jobs and business opportunities are being put on hold.
The born again Christian should have no dread or terror of God unless they plan to disengage from Jesus as their Savior. Our salvation is sealed under an eternal covenant with the precious blood of Jesus Christ and guarantees our acceptance before God (Eph. 1:6), as long as we hold fast to our declaration of faith in the atoning blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Our relationship with God is not meant to be driven by a dreadful fear for God but by our consciousness of His goodness. To the non-believer in Christ the fear of the Lord is a great deterrent from sin but this is not so with the believer because we have received grace and our gratitude for His love towards us prompts an unalloyed devotion towards Him.
Prayer : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you , I  believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive grace for an ever increasing consciousness of your goodness and strength to overcome temptation  in Jesus name
