THE INFLUENCE OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS ON POLITICS AND NATION BUILDING

 “Listen, you leaders ..! You are supposed to know right from wrong, but you are the very ones who hate good and love evil. You skin my people alive  and tear the flesh from their bones.  Yes, you eat my people’s flesh,   strip off their skin,  and break their bones. You chop them up like meat for the cooking pot.  Then you beg the lord for help in times of trouble!  Do you really expect him to answer? After all the evil you have done,     he won’t even look at you!” 

      This is what the lord says:  “You false prophets are leading my people astray! You promise peace for those who give you food,     but you declare war on those who refuse to feed you. Now the night will close around you,  cutting off all your visions. Darkness will cover you,   putting an end to your predictions.    

     The sun will set for you prophets, and your day will come to an end. Then you seers will be put to shame,  and you fortune-tellers will be disgraced. And you will cover your faces     because there is no answer from God.” 

   But as for me, I am filled with power—     with the Spirit of the lord. I am filled with justice and strength to boldly declare Israel’s sin and rebellion."  Micah 3: 1-8 . 

  The political situation in Samaria and Jerusalem during the reigns of kings Jotham , Ahaz and Hezekiah ( 742-687 B.C see 2Chronicles Chapters 26 to 30 and 2Kings Chapters 15-20) is described in Micah chapter 3. The political leaders were Influenced by the clergy who were merchandising the anointing of God's favour. They were motivated by offerings . They paid more attention to those who gave them money or food. The political leaders saw this as a licence to exploit civil servants who were afflicted with gross poverty amongst the citizen .

    The judiciary became compromised (vs 9)  the nation was known for murder and corruption " You rulers make decisions based on bribes;  you priests teach God’s laws only for a price; you prophets won’t prophesy unless you are paid. Yet all of you claim to depend on the lord. “No harm can come to us,” you say,   “for the lord is here among us.” Micah 3:11

   This resulted in the invasion of the nation by terrorists ( Vs12) resulting in the destruction of places of worship. 

 GOD'S JUDGMENT  (Verses 6- 7) : They will no longer be famous as their era will come to an abrupt end and He will cause the prophets to be disgraced  by causing their prophesies to fail and their prayers not answered : same with their supporters .

   At the same time , God will fill his remnant preachers with power and boldness to declare his righteous counsel in the land . In your daily prayers ask the to protect you from the influence of false teachers and grant you boldness to preach his word and patience and a contented heart in your service to the lord and humanity .

Prayers : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and savior and receive power to declare your righteous counsel in Jesus name.

CONSEQUENCES OF LACK OF FAITH

COMMON CAUSES OF DISUNITY.

Proverbs 29:22 NLTBible        Disunity is defined as : disagreement and conflict within a group. It is the greatest hindrance to the promotion of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Disunity creates an avenue for Satan to promote sin.       The causes of disunity are not farfetched ,they include : Unhealthy Crave for power or self- promotion. Whenever there is an unhealthy pursuit of influence in a family or group it results in resistance. Self-promotion gives birth to unfair practices and injustices. In Numbers 12: 1-15  Moses' sister Miriam and Aaron rebelled against him desiring to rule by force and in Numbers 16 :1-35 Korah led an insurrection against Moses desiring to be part of leadership.
