DEALING WITH LONELINESS AND THE FEELING OF BEING LEFT OUT

By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
1 Peter 4:4-6 NLT “ Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.  But remember that they will have to face God, who will judge everyone, both the living and the dead.”
The salvation experience involves a change in perspective and orientation in life . This is as a result of the regeneration of our spirit man by the Holy Spirit . He removes the appetite for sin replacing it with a hunger for righteousness. It is this thirst for righteousness that gives the Christian a reason to live . The lord promises satisfaction to those who thirst after righteousness.
Our thirst for righteousness is contrary to the world’s crave for sin and results in isolation , rejection , being excluded from the company or activities of others . This is when we sometimes feel left out . This feeling can be real or imagined and can affect the believer adversely if not properly handled. Jesus Christ felt left out during His earthly ministry .In Luke 23:49 He saw His friends and disciples standing afar off, as He died on the cross. Likewise, we may lose friends , company , business partners, family because of our new position with Christ . God allows it because it drives us closer to Him and help us appreciate His love and fellowship (Job 19:13-21, Psalm 38:10,11,15)
During such moment of being left out we should remember that the lord is our present comforter (Rom 8:38-39 )  it is also worthy of note that the feeling of being left is often exaggerated by the devil to discourage our faith walk (Ps 22:6-7) At that time it is best to turn to God’s word in prayer . I personally find reading psalm 34 very refreshing .It should be read out to your hearing, it silences the voice of fear from isolation. Sometimes the feeling of isolation can be overwhelming, at such times we should not fail to ask for help.
Calling up a mature Christian could help in overcoming this feeling, communicating our feelings to others helps in reducing the trauma of feeling left out . We should belong to Christian bible study group and be active in church fellowship group meetings , this gives us the opportunity to make friends we can easily call in times of isolation . During such interactions we may discover, our isolation could be as a result of mistakes and sins . If we have offended anyone , it can take some time for them to accept us into their fold  Proverbs 18:19NLT Bible says “An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.” We should not be in a haste to break up a relationship knowing that as long as we live in this age of globalization are paths are bound to cross sooner or later  and whenever it does , it should be on a peaceful note . Always prove yourself to be a person that value friendship.
Those who seek friends find friends everywhere and while seeking for friends we should not compromise on our righteous stand on life . Those who seek to be popular easily fall into Satan’s trap therefore , we should remember that we are not called of God to be popular  but relevant to the kingdom of God . Jesus Christ should be our example  Isa 53:3
He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care."
Prayer: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you ,I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation , I receive him as lord and saviour and  receive the Holy Spirit and grace for productivity in the name of Jesus Christ
