FIVE MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS OF A HUMBLE CHRISTIAN .

 Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi

" Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!" Romans 12:16 NLT

"Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters." 1 Timothy 5:1‭-‬2 NLT

 1) COURTEOUS: The spirit of Jesus Christ in the born again Christian is  meek and seeks to serve. Jesus Christ said 'I came to serve and not to be served'. The believer respects elders, treats women as princesses and queens and men as kings and princes and priests in the house of God .God's people are described as kings and priests  Rev.1:6 says " And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.' Everyone deserves respect.

2) SUPPORTS THE TESTIMONIES OF THE CHURCH The humble believer attends meetings of the gathering of God's people in obedience to the scriptures " And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, ."Hebrews 10:25 NLT attending meetings encourages fellow believers , the proud and arrogant neglect church meetings and are in rebellion against the Holy Spirit . If one cannot attend church meetings by reason of work or school then organize a bible study group or prayer meeting wherever you are. Humility demands we live a godly life wherever we are as ambassadors of Jesus Christ. The Bible says "Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. ." Phil 1:27. .

Humble Christians recognize the importance of money in spreading the gospel so they give regularly to the church and help the poor t

. The Abrahamic tithe (outside the law of Moses)  stated in Gen.14:23 NLT ” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered." Is a demonstration of humility , The scriptures says giving offerings /  Abrahamic tithe teaches us to fear ( be Humble before) God  Deut.14;23 . In the new testament we are commanded to give to our pastors for missionary work  "Now regarding your question about the money being collected for God’s people ...you should follow the same procedure I gave to the churches ... On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait.."1 Corinthians 16:1‭-‬2 NLT Pride hinders a person from giving and frustrates the work of the Holy Ghost (Acts5) .  This is against Gal 6:6.  3

) ACTIVE IN CHURCH MINISTRY , Humility demands a believer discovers their spiritual gifts and talents and use them  to spread the gospel (Eph4:11-12, 1Pet 4:10, Phil2:3-7 )

4) SHARES IN THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHURCH  . Humility demands a believer seeks for responsibilities not titles , they are active in praying for the growth of God's people and the kingdom (1Thes1:1-2) and inviting those who have not made a commitment to serve God to attend meetings of believers  ( Luke14;23) and making visitors feel at home through good hospitality (Rom15:7) .

5) SEEKS FOR UNITY : Humility demands a believer pursues after peace and unity .This they achieve by promoting brotherly love .The bible says  "You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart." 1 Peter 1:22 NLT

They resist gossips ( Eph4:29; ) and encourage church members to follow their leaders prayerfully, wisely and in love. (Heb13;17)

Prayer : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation , I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Ghost and power to be an encourager in Jesus name.
