LET THERE BE LIGHT

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

" In the beginning God created the  heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth  was without form, and void; and  darkness was upon the face of the  deep. And the Spirit of God moved  upon the face of the waters. 3 And God  said, Let there be light: and there was  light. Genesis 1;1-3

The word 'light' in verse three is the Hebrew word   ôr  it means illumination or (concretely)  luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc ) and the word 'darkness ' is the Hebrew word chôshek it means the dark ; hence (literally) darkness ; figuratively misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness: -

The light and darkness mentioned here is repeated in Isaiah 60:1 "Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and  the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.  2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover  the earth, and gross darkness the  people: but the Lord shall arise upon  thee, and his glory shall be seen upon  thee. 3 And the Gentiles shall come to  thy light, and kings to the brightness of  thy rising."

The light here is not the same as the sun or the moon but the glory of God manifested through the understanding of God's word.

Genesis 1:1 Speaks of a complete world system that existed before our world and there was chaos presumably when Satan and his fallen angels took control resulting in the collapse of the entire system.

King David spoke of this in Psalm 90 saying before this world was , God had already created the earth ( there can't be an earth without mountains )

" Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.," Out of the chaotic situation God spoke the mountains in to being  and proceeded to rearrange the earth. Notice he kept saying :'Let there be' meaning there was . You cannot say let there be tomato if it did not first exist.

This teaches us that life as we see it has an original replica that exists . The bible says in Romans 4:17 ..God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were." This is what is referred to as Metaphysical realism which is the view that most of the objects that populate the world exist independently of our thought and have their natures independently of how, if at all, we conceive of them.( Journals .open edition.org)

With this understanding you can call that unseen reality into physical reality through the power of the light in Jesus Christ . Jesus is the light .The Bible says in John 1:4 " In  him was life; and the life was the light  of men. 5 And the light shineth in  darkness; and the darkness  comprehended it not. 9 That was  the true Light, which lighteth every man  that cometh into the world." and John 12: 46" I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. "John 9:5 "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. '

Whenever , God's word is spoken darkness is silenced. Men of understanding will be highly priced these last days because of heightened demonic activities causing confusion in the world .(Isaiah 60;1-2 Make every effort to fill your heart with God's word.

Prayer : Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you I believe that Jesus Christ died and was raised for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and ask that you fill me with your Holy Spirit and power to spread the gospel . Amen
